Free Christmas Quiz Sampler 2013
A Dacapo account is needed. I already had one because of the free Christmas dl's a couple of years ago.
Single file dl's or with their DLM App. (very easy) - "As a Christmas gift to our quiz participants and all other fans of Danish music, we have collected this year's 24 quiz calendar tracks which can be downloaded for free until 31st December. In total, this is more than 2 hours of music from Dacapo's most recent releases - chamber music, opera, choral works and much more.Take a listening tour through widely different sides of Danish music, or enjoy one piece at a time - and find the original album on our website if you are curious to hear more!"
I'm sure Google Play is being overloaded right mow (it's very slow), but Yeezus (here's your chance, GP!) and the new Chvrches albums are free. I think it's U.S. only, and I'm sure you have to "join" if you aren't a member, but they're free. They also have a few single tacks that are free to download. I was able to get the Chvrches album and download it (it's tricky - I'm not sure that they want you to actually download it - but it's possible).
I got Chvrches just fine, thanks! On Kanye, the price is going to have to go quite a bit lower before I'll buy. It would be interesting to know how the finances work on this promotion.
Scroll down, there are more: Marvin Gaye greatest hits, some Elton John, etc. I notice the track Reflector by Arcade Fire - one from Drake's last album are also free.
Got Chvrches for my daughter.
Just in case this interests anyone else, Fatalist: The Repetition of History by Field Rotation is several dollars cheaper at Google Play than elsewhere. So I'll give them this - giving away an album for free that my daughter likes prompted me to comparison shop there for some other things, which I had not done for long enough for my credit card on file there to have expired. Though I still haven't actually bought anything, it being so close to Christmas, so there's that.
Time limited: Benjamin Dauer tweeted: "So @twiceremovedrec is giving away my album for free for the next seven days in celebration of my birthday. Get it!"
His other stuff has been good; considered buying this at one point, will certainly give it another spin at free/NYOP. I make it 6 days to go.
This has may have been posted before, but I'm too lazy to find out.
WFMU/FMA: James Blackshaw: Live at WFMU on The Long Rally 2/2/10 - "At one point in our interview James Blackshaw casually stated, "I wouldn't call myself a great guitar player." He is modest and a gentleman and he probably believes to some extent that next to John Fahey or Robbie Basho or Jack Rose the term "great" carries the weight of high expectations. However, James Blackshaw is an exceptional guitar player, and an increasingly interesting recording artist as well. He is intent exploring his love and adoration for contemporary composition or new music or minimalism or whatever you would like to call it, and in the process, is broadening the scope of the 12-string acoustic guitar. Which is why people who describe his music like to use terms like "orchestral" and "symphonic." In his guitar there is drone, sustain, a church organ, bells, harmony, dissonance, silence and I think I even heard human voices."
"We'd like to start the new year with a brand new 22 tracks free download sampler which features many of our 2013 releases as well as some upcoming releases from the beginning of 2014."

NYOP for less than 24 hours
Ben Allen Jencks' Thinking of You. Muscular, vaguely Latin Jazz. Very satisfying. NYOP
Another great NYOP ep. A bit of Southern gothic folk centered on mortality.
Incredible chamber folk with Lady Maisery type harmonies. Excellent. NYOP.
Quirky singer-songwriter folk with nice harmonies and ambient touches. Engaging. NYOP
New Tracks: Ilgenfritz & Van Houdt with Braxton, Oliveros, Marclay, L
