@Craig, for a while I was into murder ballads and whatnot, particularly the PEOPLE TAKE WARNING! set that dropped a couple of years back. Would this fit that bill?
elwood - Based on looks alone it appears that will fit the dark and angry bill. I don't have speakers on my work computer though so I can't say for sure whether the Cult of Youth stuff is a "neo" version of it.
amclark2 posting this cover inspired me to finally get some Beirut (I'm absolutely fascinated by everything eastern European). Angry at myself for waiting so long, and happy that mtraks has a bunch of his stuff.
@Craig - that wasn't me; I don't have that one. The only one I have is March of the Zapotec, which is Mexican rather than Eastern European, but seriously great. I couldn't find it on mtraks though.
Just got a boxed set of 5 their earlier albums out of the Library today, so they'll all be appearing over the next few days. I'll still think this is their best album
Roy Montgomery - "Scenes From the South Island"
-Guitar drone, mostly ambient, sometimes noisy, but still polite. Keep coming back to this album for about fifteen years.
Just downloaded - we are a day late on release here
The album produced by guitarist Eric Krasno (of Soulive fame) also features Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks, John Scofield, Ivan Neville and Vieuxs final collaboration with his legendary father, Ali Farka Toure.
To make this album I had to dig deep into the secrets of my own history and my countrys culture in order to move the music forward, Vieux said, back in his native Mali. My music is more mature now, more evolved. It digs deeper into the past and pushes harder into the future as a result. This is a hard thing to explain, but hopefully the music speaks for itself. Do you want to know the secret? You have to listen to the album.
