    - Celebrating the huge Warp drop @ Emusic by digging in my Amie folder.
Oh, it would have been so much fun to grab them for next to nothing @ Amie . . . Sigh !

Just playing the AAJ free track thanks Jonahpwll. I can see the remainder of the album being downloaded from emusic soon...

Edit - the rest of the album is just as good as Jonahpwll suggests

This is one of the joys of emusers. Earlier this afternoon I'd never heard of Tunnel Six. Now I have a live album and an EP from Bandcamp and another album from emusic. All are great jazz. Thanks Jonah
  • You're very welcome. It's so easy to spread the word, yet it often yields results of so much happiness that it's almost difficult to believe the cause and effect of that little bit of effort.

    Here's another one...

    Jean Lapouge - "Temporare"

Guitar, vibes, and trombone. I thought only Frisell could pull something like this off. I just picked this up today on emu.

A track from this album will be an AAJ free mp3 of the day sometime next week. I'll start a thread when it happens.

Here's his myspace, which has three songs...

    @ Germanprof:
There seems to be no reviews on this one anywhere and AMG does'nt seem to know anything about him, wich is strange.

    - It is definitely more in the "difficult listening" department than any of his other releases.
My first impulse was, given the fact that you probably have to pay the price of an album, that it was expendable.
    - But after second thoughts and a few spins I'd say it has it's very own magic and can recommend it.

    - Some may argue that this has nothing to do with music.
    ;-)

    ETA:
The fact that it has Silence in the title says a lot. . .

    Confused ?
    - You won't be after listening to the next episode of "Silence Musique" !
  • Thanks. You seem to be confirming what I suspected that this one's more of an abstract installation. It's on Mtraks for I think four credits so I might grab it next time I decide to take out a month on there. Really enjoyed the Dancing Deer EP today. Am going to get that other one with lines in the title off emusic after refresh day.
  • - If you by abstract mean incoherent, this is definitely not the case. The piece has a clear "idea" that slowly evolves through the 40 minutes - This is where the magic is.

I managed to get this for 3 np's from emu the day before it disappeared, which was pretty good luck because there was no notice that it was going to disappear.

    Stefon Harris on vibes.

@Brighternow - no, I would be far from equating abstract with incoherent. "Abstract" can be compelling and utterly coherent, though the coherence tends to be more internal, self-contained, form-focused. I think I meant something more like music focused mainly on the development of its own formal soundscape and requiring attentiveness to itself for its own sake, with less immediacy of reference for the casual/average listener; "difficult listening". At the other end of the Bernier scale the Dancing Deer material has a few passages that are almost a kind of collage pop. Neither end of this scale is a necessarily a negative for me.
On similar lines, I presume you have what I'm listening to now, as I know you've posted other Aidan Baker work and this is totally up your street...just gave a first listen to:

    Liminoid/Lifeforms
Wow. (Thanks, Guvera!!!) This is a remarkable record. I listened to quite a few albums today (grading exams), but this one totally arrested my attention. Goes all the way from lyrical strings and murky ambiance to frantic noise freakout (via ritualistic art vocals) and back again. Amazing stuff. Brilliant. Absorbing. Weighty music. Utterly worthwhile.
