The only logical response is to buy this kid a penny whistle. I feel it is important to prepare our young for the challenges of adult life by doing all we can to improve their chances of getting free pints of Guinness in Irish bars while they are in college. Never too early to start.
At least he has some taste BT!! Better than my then two year old grandaughter wanting Wheels on the Bus continuously for an hour or so.We were discussing a few days ago on another thread travelling distance. For me it is almost a different world, a bit like me getting in the car to drive to Prague or Lisbon!
Grønland has always intrigued Mark O'Leary, the vast and enchanting arctic tundra has for many years captured his imagination.
Its minimal ice terrain, fjords, creative urban spaces, northern light, abundance of nature juxtaposed with a colourful cultural fabric have been a source of curiosity and inspiration.
Given its historic relationship with Denmark, when Mark had the opportunity to record with drummer Stefan Pasborg and electronic artist Jakob Riis in Copenhagen Grønland would be the sonic subject matter.
The song titles point to many of the strong visual, historic and cultural images of Grønland.
Sirius Patrol - the brave, fearless Danish Navy Unit that patrol and protect the North-East with their beloved canines.
Inuit - the highly cultured indigenous people that inhabit the terrain, are one of the most resourceful, innovative and skilled races on earth.
Aurora, After Dawn, and Moving Towards The Light all allude to the special light that emanates from the region and its strategic importance during the Cold War and its vital environmental importance to the new world.
Finally Nuuk - the capital of Grønland and one of the most unique cities on earth with its kaleidoscope of urban landscape, Nordic influenced, but totally unique.
The music endeavored to encapsulate all of the above essences. It allowed for the spontaneous energy of the band to contour the conceptual terrain and develop into atmospheric soundscapes projecting an expressive dynamic minimalism that ebbs and flows very much like the cinematographic experience espoused by Andrej Tarkowski, juxtaposed with a micro-textural ambience coming straight from the heart of Ligeti in a post-industrial mantle.
The music is very much alive, the central core of the project was recorded in Copenhagen, with treatments added later in Cork by O'Leary and mix engineer Donncha Moynihan.
@greg, it could be construed that we are bad parents but we laid down the rule that no children's music was to be played in the house or car. We arrived at that decision after suffering mightily at the incessant okaying if the Yo Gabba Gabba albums, which while superior to something like Barney, are still painful after repeated exposure. We let our daughter pick what she wants to hear out of our collection and so far the favorites are shaping up to be Jim White, Yumi Arai, Zubatto Syndicate, and pretty much anything House. The addendum to the rule is that we listen to albums, no backsies unless we stop and get out, then we can start the last song over. Makes drives a little easier, even if we come off as some sort of musical totalitarian regime. ;-)
280 minutes by the singer for the Skillet Lickers. More straight-forward country than barn-burning, but really nice. ETA: this guy does great bass runs on the guitar. Currently priced at $4.40
@Doofy: the boy already has some experience, hanging at pubs, while I play a session. I'm not sure it's a good thing.
@greg: Taste? Yes, but does an almost five-year old need to know a song about whoring sailors?
"Vance Galloway: electric guitar, custom software processing
Vance Galloway and noisepoetnobody first met back in 1998 when Vance was commissioned to master an album of a band that noisepoetnobody was in at the time. noisepoetnobody meanwhile began building his fanbase throughout the Northwest as both a solo performer and an active member of the experimental music scene. Over the years, Vance was contacted for further album mastering when he had time away from his demanding schedule of working on some of the worlds most advanced audio visual installations. Occasionally Vance and noisepoetnobody would play on stage together. As improvisers they excelled at mutual listening skills and almost without effort captivated audiences as though all songs were rehearsed to perfection.
This album represents the duos second full length recording. Their 1st album - Summons The Porocora - self-produced by noisepoetnobody, was well received in the Seattle/Portland area as an epic descent into a disturbing and haunting retreat from reality. Upon receiving a grant from the Jack Straw Foundation to record and perform for the world famous KEXP.org Radio, Vance and noisepoetnobody began a more regular schedule of recording and rehearsals in preparation. This album contains the recordings from the KEXP.org broadcast sessions as well as other works created in preparation for those sessions."

@elwoodicious - I agree! Trouble is it is difficult to make the rules when you are grandparents. Now she is 2 1/2 her favourite listening in the car is Classic FM. I think her mum also got fed up with rhymes too!!
@BT - yes, I take your point about NY Girls.... but he does need to know about such things and why to avoid them. But it is a great album. I'll probably put it on in a few minutes, once I've found my ipod
Like the previous two days, I am spending much of the day marking (grading) student work. Today it is Post Graduate (Masters) work that needs a lot of concentration, so it'll be fairly peaceful music in the background. This is a really good start to set the tone...
As I've said before you can here this everywhere over here at the moment. We were in a great restaurant in London on Saturday night and of course it was the background music. Then a TV gardening programme a couple of nights was using one of the tracks as background whilst showing the Chelsea Flower Show
History of Electronic / Electroacoustic Music (1937-2001) - I've only downloaded about 10 of the 62 discs so far, and I'm only in the middle of listening to the first track but this is the. best. thing. ever. Thanks Brighternow!

On my cloud drive. What the heck, it was $.99, right?
edit: OK, I really kind of enjoyed Highway Unicorn and Heavy Metal Lover, and Electric Chapel's off to a good start.
This very fine Woody album is $2.94 at eMu.

My ipod moved onto this, so I decided I may as well continue listening to it!
I like plenty of hip-hop, but The Roots may be the only hip-hop group that actually compel me to listen somewhat regularly.
You are most welcome, - "only" 10 ? - I'm impressed. . .
- (Sub Rosa - 2003)
I haven't played this CD for years - I don't even have it on itunes yet
