  • @Greg, thanks, I'll check that out. Meetings all day and evening today - no listening at all :-(
  • @GP - yes I know what you mean. Even as someone who is a part-time, semi retired worker, I still have days like those! You can tell when, when I add very little to this thread. It'll only be two or three early morning albums here today before I go out!

Leyland Kirby - Sadly, the future is no longer what it was . . .

"An opus of loss, desire and bewilderment at current situations. What happened to the future we were promised and promised ourselves ? Is this the soundtrack of a World in decline ?"
  • Started reading Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk last night and the first chapter is about Warhol, Nico, and the Velvets, so...

  • Can't stop listening to that Nils Frahm Wintermusik. Oh, if only it were available on emu. Actually, if I could download it on Amazon, I'd probably spring for it.

You can get the album-only track for 0.99 on 7dig

    Checking out the Panospria netlabel.

Coin Gutter's Asthmatics of if Failure: two long, organy drones that build with glitchy percussion and guitar touches. Worth a listen.

"Shogun Kunitoki is a band from Helsinki, Finland, with a mission to help electronic music regress back to a more human state, the time of the tube organ and the ring modulator, the spring reverb and the test oscillator."

    - Very Apparat Organ Quartet 'ish . . .

    Too Switchblade Symphony.
  • Japan - Tin Drum
  • Enrico Caruso singing E Lucevan le stelle from Tosca courtesy of The Library Of Congress National Jukebox, another resource I tend to forget about. Super scratchy old 78 transfer not withstanding it really is quite phenomenal to be able to listen to this.

Thanks for recommending this GP and Brighternow - without emusers I would never have considered listening to this, never mind downloading it. It defies genre categorisation - it is described as classical vocal by emusic, but an earlier EP with four of the tracks is described as jazz. That'll give you start, but really you need to listen to it
  • - You are welcome Greg . . .

    300x300.jpg

    - Neoclassical with the composer conducting and playing distorted guitar at the same time

Thanks BN - I am almost through it now and am enjoying it. It really defies genre description. Inevitably there are some tracks I prefer over others, but I do intend listening again soon.I've jus t downloaded the longer Bandcanp track, so have that to come later too

It has been so warm this week (the 80s! In Minnesota! In October!) that I need something summery.

We were like that this time last week Craig - it even reached a record October high for the UK of just over 30C last Sunday not far from us. Make the most of it - we had about 5 days heat until Tuesday. Now it is back to normal - currently raining with the temperature around 15C. It's hard to believe I wore shorts all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday last weekend
  • Oh, we are doing our best to make the most of it! Knowing Minnesota we could have a foot of snow in the next two weeks. I actually won't mind that because I wouldn't have to rake the leaves until spring.
