Finally checked this out at Bird Is the Worm, and pleasantly surprised to find the drummer is Quin Kirchner--whose mom used to babysit my daughter! Kinda cool...this is the same guy who is/was the drummer for the afrobeat band NOMO. I got the album at mtraks

@amclark2, no that's the review. I thought it was a bit too short to post to MiG, but I might submit it to Craig if we get desperate next week.

(The release is Emeralds by Emeralds)

@Brighternow, that's a very accurate review as well. One of the stranger split releases I've seen. We should start a line of Haiku-or-shorter album reviews.

Gorgeous. Rec'd by Brighternow almost exactly a year ago. Thanks.

My interest in this got refreshed by the fantastic cover version on Glen Campbell's Ghost on the Canvas; I had forgotten how much I like this; totally different though than lo-fi GBV. I guess this is hi-fi GBV.

John Hollenbeck's Quartet Lucy. An AmieStreet purchase, and excellent.

Hadn't heard this in a while. Fun listening. Kind of surf-guitar-cello-drone-ambient with rhythm.

Streaming Paul McCartney - Kisses on the Bottom from Guardian website

updates - very sentimental at times, many of the tracks, so far, are from the Great American Songbook tradition. Not sure about it half way through... second half is better. Good singing, excellent backing band, but in some ways what is the point? Ella did it so much better, with so much more emotion. My Valentine, a McCarney original has Eric Clapton on accoustic guitar -much better.

Towards the end now, I like the last three tracks: Get Yourself Another Fool - with Eric Clapton on guitar? - and the penultimate track Inch Worm. The final track, another McCartney original, Only Our Hearts, has Stevie Wonder on harmonica

Overall - superb band, great voice, but lacking emotion on some tracks IMO. Some tracks I just did not like, but maybe that is because I just don't like them as tracks sung by anyone? Now I'll read the reviews!

Good afternoon, BN. Is it as cold your side of the North Sea as it is here?

Much editing to do this morning, so I am listening through my Red Gardland collection. Thanks to Guvera for most of it!
  • Schubert - Mass No. 2 in G Major

    Right now:

    London - 1C/34F
    Copenhagen - -7C/19F
    Rochester, NY - 0C/31F

It's still early here, so I'm probably looking at a warmer day. I love smart phones.
