    - "Variations Opportunistes was composed and created using a digital process: frames are blocked and repeated using a digital anomaly in a CD player and sound glitches are fragmented and recorded on a CD format.
Diverse sound fragments are treated variably (frequency, range, amplitude, speed…).
The instrumental game consists of using different scratch and manipulation techniques in cuts, crescendos or decrescendos over variable speeds. These sound conditions are mixed simultaneously with several categories of sound syntheses. The result is “surgical” work on harmonic details, the sound frequency and its range and the defragmentation of sound (subtractive or additive synthesis, etc.) based on preexisting music for soloists or ensembles.
This work was created during studies that began in 1997 on the generation and degeneration of sound frequency (sound synthesis), based on a preexisting sound or music set on a digital audio CD.
The first research was based on the reuse of domestic CD players. This involved work on the very surface of optical supports (CD), the manipulation of optical heads (prism) and the use of diverse transparent materials, such as silicone or oily substances.
CD: Zygosis (Sonoris 1999) was partially created with this concept.
MINI CD: Frame (Cinéma pour l’oreille – Metamkine -1999) was entirely created with this concept.
CD: Stème (composed in 2003 and edited by Room40 in 2007) also features this process. This practice was also used for diverse compositions, as well as my visual art and video projects."

thanks @choiceweb, this is very nice indeed. I enjoy some the earlier albums as well (Famous Places and Two Points), but the guitar is a welcome addition.

    - "Grzegorz Bojanek (1975), also known as Eta Carinae, is the founder of the net label: http://www.etalabel.com/. Since 2007 he has been the artistic producer of Warsaw Electronic Festival. As an artist he consequently introduces field recordings and electroacoustic sounds into his compositions which are the combination of the modern melodics ambient and sometimes noise"

    - Grzegorz Bojanek will have a new album out on Dynamophone called Remaining Sounds on 30 April 2012 - Both albums are really excellent stuff . . .

    Listening on Noisetrade's page.

    Wow.

EDIT// First track can be had free on Amazon (Amazon has named Bhi Bhiman as one of their 'Artists on the Rise') - or, obviously, you can get the whole CD free or NYOP on Noisetrade.

Thanks for the reminder of Thy Veils. I remember glancing at their stuff the last time they were mentioned, but forgot to bookmark, I guess. Anyways, I really like some of what I heard. Think I might invite for the AAJ dotd.

I'm liking what I heard from Dynamophone's upcoming release by Josh Varnedore "Sun Chapter".

Got this and the BB KIng above out from my local library today. I knew I'd like the BB King. Not so sure about this, though.

I think Greg pointed this out the other day. NYOP on Bandcamp...Josh is apparently endeavoring to make 6 albums in 12 months, with 3 already done. This one's number 2...

Enjoying myself some J-House (my wife also pointed out that every single time I read a Murakami novel I become a raging Japanophile).

Finally catching up with Lessazo, it's pretty cool. Has anyone found any further info on this project?

Earlier today, got a chance to hear Mombojo. Different than I was expecting...Kinda rocks!

  • Listening to Pjusk (all three albums) while riding the train up the West coast of Norway as the sun set yesterday evening - absolutely priceless.
(Right now, "listening" to a lecture in Norwegian from the guy up before me).

And that is where Smart phones and the ipod Touch come in useful, GP! I've been known to check email, soccer results etc in such circumstances.

I played the Pavrotti above in the car going to and from physiotherapy (back!) yesterday. I admit a few tracks lasted 20 seconds or so before skipping, I suspect I'll upload no more than a handful of tracks to itunes.

As mentioned yesterday, Josh is working on a series of 6 albums; this is number 3. All are NYOP at Bandcamp, I threw him a sawbuck.
Heavily influenced by the classic Coltrane Quartet and Jimmy Page's acoustic guitar playing in altered tunings, The Language of Sound and Spirit is a suite of music combing traditional jazz forms with drone sounds.

Not sure I'm hearing all of those influences just yet, but sounds good on first spin. Brian Charette brings a great soaring organ sound.
