Spent the last several hours listening to Bach's Johannes-Passion sung in German by a Dutch chorale and following along with program notes in Norwegian at the cathedral in Oslo. James Gilchrist was the evangelist and was absolutely outstanding - if you get a chance to hear him, do so. His brilliance helped compensate for jetlag.
My goodness the number of emusers or partners this side of the Atlantic has gone up, with GP and Mrs amclark here too. Ususal start to the day with CDs on before computer swithched on. Already played
Interestingly, this is one of two albums I downloaded from mtraks yesterday that have been available there for a week or two, but are not yet available on Amazon or eMu. This one is available on Amazon tomorrow, but the other (IAMDYNAMITE's Supermegafantastic) won't be available there until June 5 (I have no clue when they'll be on eMu, obviously). I'm wondering if some small labels (this one is on Ghostly while the other is on Brando Records, which I'm not familiar with) are trying to help out some of the smaller retailers.
Having to wait for it to appear on mtraks makes sense to me, though. It's having it be available only on mtraks (to my knowledge) that I'm intrigued by. Especially having it on mtraks basically 3 months before Amazon will get it (like the IAMDYNAMITE).
It's surprising to me how much different this is than her last album with Frankie Rose and the Outs. It's still indie pop, but it's not nearly as sunny.
I am sat in a hotel room that has one of those systems where the TV is turned on and playing ads for the restaurant and spa before you enter your room. I slumped in a comfortable corner of the room before locating the remote and turning it off. As a result, I have been listening to a repeating loop of hotel muzak for the last 20 minutes. I think in another 20 it would drive me certifiably insane. It is amazing how annoying basically anodyne, inoffensive music can be made to be.
Earlier I was listening to this:
which I have to say is not one of the better comps I've downloaded, either that or I failed to connect.
On Spotify. I came across this randomly on Amazon. Some beautiful instrumental music, seems like a cover of music from Ken Burns's The Civil War Soundtrack, mostly.

and part way through
I must get out more CDs to widen my choice!
First chance to listen to this new album by Chicago jazz guitarist Jeff Parker. Link goes to eMu review.

Now downloaded and playing. Upto track 2 so far, which reminds me of 80s music, especially the English band Tears for Fears
Sometimes you just need to rock. This album rocks.
The video for the lead single is here if you're interested.

I think I am three times through this one today, and another two or three listening to the Bang on a Can All-Stars version last night.

Before that, lots of Pjusk, naturally.
Better comp. And opens with a Makunouchi Bento track.

Still love this!
