The SS Baychimo worked the Canadian arctic until it became trapped in pack ice in 1931 and was left ADRIFT for over 30 years in the North.
A linear, extended render of Baychimo from the generative app/album ADRIFT (2015). Available here for free (pay what you want) for those who cannot experience the endless version via the app or want to have a linear version. This is close to a one hour excerpt, no edits other than a 30 second fade
Well, there's hardly any one left to be paid, but lots of labels that have left say it was because they weren't being paid. Soulcoal has documented many of these statements on this very site. What reason do you think Polyvinyl had for leaving eMusic (yes, their catalogue is still listed there, but none of it is available)? Several small jazz labels whose back catalogue is still there but whose current cataloge isn't told me that they left things there is order to have a better case to sue when all goes south.
I just thought that it wouldn't make sense to stay if there was no payments.
- I mean why would an active label like Important Records chose to stay ?
I don't think Important is still active on eMusic. None of their 2020 releases are there, are they? I am not sure why some labels allow their back catalogue to remain. As I said in another release, some labels seem to believe their chances of getting something when eMusic finally goes out of business is greater if they still have content there - as I know zero about law I have no idea whether is this a good idea. I would also guess that labels don't get much play on back catalogue anyway (see Polyvinyl letting back catalogue go for $1 on Bandcamp). And, the people who run these labels are not necessarily astute business people first - not like those who run Naxos or Orchard (who got out early) anyway.
Added: Since the "ingestion" to eMusic occurs through 7Digital and not directly from the label, it may take some time for labels to realise that their product is on eMusic and that they are not being paid.
Thank you all for the incredible generosity! Giving away all my music for free on Bandcamp the last week have provided more income than an entire year worth of streams on Spotify. The Cantos are all orphan songs. The Cantos, and Swami Lateplate, were
born when one afternoon in Saft's Brooklyn studio Saft and Previte were
hanging out and decided to turn on the machine and record whatever
happened, however it happened, with no preconception, no direction, no
thought of what they were doing and for whom, and certainly no attempt
to create anything with "taste." The Cantos have no musical value
whatsoever.

In 1992 the Moscow Circus tracked Previte down on
tour and hired him to create all the music to their new act, which
opened on Broadway at the Gershwin Theater. This music became the
fourth Gramavision release, “Music of the Moscow Circus.” Written for
the various circus acts, this CD reads like a soundtrack for an aerial
ballet, with everything from a classically inspired piano piece to a
shredding electronic noisefest. New York Newsday—“The most unreal circus
you will ever see, partly because of Previte’s haunting and audaciously
impressionistic score.” And from the Buffalo News—“The music is
altogether extraordinary, from its opening conflagration of chattering
brass to the suspended animation of its piano etudes.” A completely
different and fresh offering from Previte, and out of print.
Introducing Pay What You Can: A new Temporary Residence Ltd album offered as Pay What You Want on Bandcamp every day until a vaccine is discovered for COVID-19.
@Doofy thanks for the tip re Temporary Residence. Discovered a whole lot of my favourite bands there from my early eMusic days such as Mogwai, Maserati, Mono, Grails and, of course, the outstanding Explosions in the Sky.
