"2001.Post 9/11 and the shock of that terrible day permeates this recording (except ,ironically, the opener which pre-dated the cataclysm by a good 6 months).
Perhaps LPDs never sounded more melancholic and "Horses" rates in the top 3 of
Edward Ka-Spel's favourite Dots albums, but it was sadly overlooked by a World which was also in a state of shock.
The little boy on the cover is EK's son, Tristan."
I saw this in my local library yesterday. I'd already downloaded it from Amazon a couple of years ago, but I can get a lossless copy instead of the Amazon levels. It is amazing how much better it sounds.
I took this out of the library because I have no Will.i.am music, not sure how much I'll like this, as I've just read a review on Amazon UK that really slates it
Finally catching up to BadBadNotGood http://badbadnotgood.com/ A couple free albums - a Rock vs Jazz (vs Hip-Hop, or so they tell me) kind of thing. I gather they have generated some controversy, though mainly having to do with moufiness than the music they play. The music I like so far - EITS comes to mind, although with a good deal more edge.
Thanks, doofy. Good stuff, by I don't get either the hype or the controversy. The music isn't far afield of where Jazz is or has been. Indeed, I'm longing for some Matthew Shipp about now.
BT, agreed, I think the "controversy," such as it was, had mainly to do with ragging on the jazz Ed establishment/curriculum. Teen (which they are) snottiness aside, I think there's pretty clearly some itchiness to bust out through the jazz borders these days. Probably salutary, although some efforts succeed better than others...less Glasper/more Esperanza for me, personally. I like the music on first listen...a bit synthy for my taste at times. Credit to elwood for bringing this up some weeks back, btw.
@Doofy - I don't think it's the titles; it's the track orders they're showing up in. The order is sort of all over the map, and the Lazy Bones disc shows up as a different album, with all it's tracks in alphabetical order.
They're almost 30 days out; two payments for me; before their next release; I think I may drop out for a while and try a different label.
Those of us on the Morr deal at drip get another album in 4 hours, by Kira Kira. Sounds intriguing: "Kira Kira is the alias of Icelandic composer and audio/visual artist Kristin Björk Kristjansdottir, and this album is a majestic micro/macrocosm. Ambiance, experimetation, Icelandic playfulness..."

Have worked my way through Mississippi John Hurt - Complete Studio Recordings, a three CD box pulling together his mid-sixties Vanguard albums, courtesy of Newbury Comics via Amazon for $15. Really beautiful and tender music - you will not pull that out of me too often. Extremely glad I sprang for this.

- Lovely saxophone by Marion Brown. . .

First few tracks played - different, but certainly worth the listen. I'll comment in greater detail when I have played more, probably tomorrow.
