Daniel Estrem - JS Bach on 8 string guitar, vol 2. A Mangatune release, 77 minutes of beautiful classical guitar.
"Volume 2 consists of Daniel Estrem's transcriptions of 21 pieces from J. S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier along with 5 works from other sources. The Well-Tempered Clavier is generally regarded as one of the most influential works in the history of Western classical music. Although it was written to demonstrate a new keyboard tuning method, Bach composed a treasury of musical gems that have resonated with music lovers for generations. These new versions for classical guitar reveal a poetic and moving interpretation of the genius of Bach. There is a rich tapestry on the recording that speaks directly to the intent listener."
Craig - I don't love Centipede either, but then I never managed to love Merriweather either; I always have the same problem with ac - I like it while I'm listening, but as soon as its over it slips out of my mind completely. I do think I might end up liking Centipede more than Merriweather though.
@Brighternow re Mono, I've had that feeling about their last two releases as well - I know they've been going for something more classical, but for me it flattens out some of what made them exciting in the first place. Still, I'll give this one a listen. Thanks for the link.
ETA, yes, Nostalgia is good. Com(?) is still my favorite of theirs.
Another daily spin of this. Funny thing; I keep listening to it thinking "King of Limbs" then thinking no, that's silly; it doesn't sound like Radiohead; then I found this in a drownedinsound review:
The only problem is that I fundamentally like this album. Its jolly and kinetic and greater than the sum of its songs and comes laden down with happy memories of being fuzzily wasted and enjoying many of these tracks for the first time at Primavera last year. Its not a major album, but are Animal Collective obliged to make major albums? I might draw parallels with Radioheads The King of Limbs, another low key, late career electronic record that got lambasted for not being earthshatteringly brilliant. But Radiohead are so self-consciously portentous as to invite that sort of thing; Animal Collective are just four dudes with silly pseudonyms who make sunny music and probably just about sell enough records to work as musicians fulltime.

It's certainly no Merriweather, but I don't find it nearly as difficult a listen as a lot of the reviews are claiming.
I like it. Don't love it (at least not yet, could be a grower), but I like it.
