I got something from someplace other than Guvera! This is gorgeous polyphony from The Sixteen (waiting to refresh to get the last three tracks--9 in all)

The album I always wished Bryan Ferry would have made (after he dropped the lounge lizard act.)

Now playing the second CD. I'll have to follow up the Mali Cool CD, thanks GP
  • The MaliCool reminds me a bit of the Cissoko/Goetze recordings - although it sounds different, less meditative. It's trombone and kora.

    Thanks, BT.

How is that one GP? It's on my list of stuff to get.
  • I've only streamed about half of it to decide to download - it's now downloaded. Bear in mind I am exploring genres I do not know here, and that even when I listen to jazz I think I do so with ambient ears (timbre more than structure) but it sounds very nice to me. Slow, meandering, atmospheric.
  • GP - I checked out Mali Cool - Amazon UK only have it as an imported CD, over £25, whilst itunes do have it but fairly expensive, as almost everything is there. I'll do a bit more searching at other sites first. The samples on itunes sounded good, different trumpet sound though to Volker Goetze

@greg, that different trumpet is a trombone! (I would not have figured that out just by listening, mind)

Stuck in the middle of writing projects. Downloaded Ummagumma and Ommadawn this month. Hoping a return to the articulate 60s/70s will provide inspiration.

Cramming for DeJohnette/Abercrombie/Holland concert tonight. This is on Guvera, as is the 90s Gateway "Homecoming." The earlier Gateway albums aren't avail for download anywhere that I've found.
  • Correction, Gateway I is available (credited to Abercrombie - but to JdJ on Guvera).

This is very nice; thanks kez!
  • AMC et al: I think there's a five-track EP by SHEL on Guvera.

This was the sequel to the incredible Pilgrimage to Santiago. Well worth the 10 tracks.

This is available on Guvera and quite nice so far

Got the vinyl via kickstarter but haven't had a turntable hooked up in a few months. This one is very cool - has a lot of the aggressiveness of TOBACCO's solo material.

Got interrupted several times so still working through that Issa Bagayogo remix album on Guvera. I'd recommend a listen to the track "Filaw (Shrift Remix)" as an example of the delightful possibilities that remixing African music might open up if done with restraint. (As opposed to the electronic-beat-with-vaguely-African-noises that is also present elsewhere on the album).

    Fela Friday!

For giggles, I'm streaming my listening here if anyone is interested.
  • That's interesting elwoodicious. You mean we all could listen to the same music at the same time!!

@GP - trumpet/trompone, shows how little I know about brass instruments beyond the saxophone!!

I'm currently listening to Elwood Radio!!
