This is one of these albums where this question pops up in my head: Why don't these guys have hits ? (track 2) Legendary Pink Dots - A Perfect Mystery (2012 Remaster) REDUX
The Silver Man: keyboards,devices
Edward Ka-Spel: voice,keyboards
Ryan moore:drums, bass
Martijn de Kleer: guitar,violin
Niels van Hoorn: wind instruments
Frank Verschuuren: engineer
The year 2000 . . .
End of the second millennium and end of an era for The Dots. Ryan left after this album to focus on his excellent Twilight Circus Project while Frank Verschuuren departed for a career in the New World .
The final gasp of the Dots' "big" line-up lacks consistency .Some fine tracks that stand the test of time, but some regrets about not capturing the enormity of "Pain Bubbles " in the studio environment.Likewise "Lent" often sounded better live....but
perhaps that's inevitable. The extended LPDs line-up somehow delivered their best work on stage at this time.
Worth a listen is Premonition 25- in my humble opinion the best of this long running saga of dark epics."
- Edward Ka-Spel.
Just to catch up a couple of CDs I spun at work - my laptop there is on IR, or worse, we'll see - first
if you dug the first two you'll probably like this as well - I like their vibe and sound, and listening to Joe Bonamassa growing a few wild ones out.
Next one I stumbled upon and bought on a whim, being a Los Lobos/Hidalgo fan, and I like it a lot -
Imagine young ZZ Top got sent forward 35 years to the present in a time machine. Funky!
I *wish* I was listening to this right now! Bad Thoughts mentioned Criolo in a post a few days ago. This came up in Mulatu's FB feed.
Meanwhile, still working my way through the 80 tracks of Fire in My Bones. You can actually stream it at Guvera - check out "Father, I Stretch My Arm To Thee" by Rev. G. W. Killens & Mt. Calvary Congregation. Yow.
- "Yannis Kyriakides, who is also the mind behind the electro-acoustically oriented "Unsounds" label, delivered us his full-length "Highly Coloured Places" album which was crafted with an astonishing soundquality.
The abundance of precision and refined techniques makes one wonder about the time it must have taken to put these lengthy tracks together. Yannis travels a path in between electro-acoustic music and manipulated field recordings, allowing him a lot of artistic freedom. You will find him orchestrating beautiful and rather classical compositions, but the contrasts with abstract, sometimes rhythmical electronic influences truly bring the listening experience to a much higher potential.
The sound recordings which he has captured in numerous exotic places effectively invoke the settings of a kind of fantasy geography. Places that by all means you should come visit some time."

The reissue of Michel Polnareff's self-titled psychedelic pop masterpiece from 1971 is both a welcome addition to the CD canon, and probably more than a little off-putting to many members of the Elephant 6 collective, as well as to Stereolab and others who have cribbed its originality and vision, and tried to claim it as their own.
Listening to some Francoise Bayle from the History of Electronic/electro-acoustic music from ubu. Also enjoyed Bernard Parmegiani and Iannis Xenakis from that collection recently.
Yep. Search for " Polnareff's ". The review, BTW, better reflects the arrangements and orchestrations than the songwriting. 2-3 songs sound like the ballads of the time. There are a few tracks, though, that compare well to Of Montreal, Beulah and Apples in Stereo: interesting uses of brass and woodwinds, long instrumental passages that seem taped together than composed of one piece, synthesized bass lines. Tracks worth checking out: Voyages, N
Ho ho ho !

- "Is it possible today to produce a Christmas album that would be really original? Yes indeed. This is precisely what Gil Mortio one of the brain behind Joy as a Toy- and his collective Valley of Love have achieved.
The codes of the genre are skillfully shaken up with this delightful and crazy album.
As a musician, Gil Mortio dabbles in everything: composer and key figure of the Brussels musical scene, he is also an inspired producer. For the festive season, he has crafted a record that finally makes a change from the eternal pompom record of Christmas!
In order to update the gimmicks of the genre, Gil Mortio has rallied numerous artists from Brussels and other places around a theme that touches us all, Christmas. Members of famous bands such as VO, Wolke, Karim Gharbi, Seth Faergolzia, Joy as a Toy, Garrett List, Philippe Taskin, Anu Junnonen, Lylac and more, all these various musicians have generously played the game, with songs evoking alternately the broadway comedies, the delicate pop of the Kinks, Vladimir Cosma and Jim ORourke. The result : a daring and consistent record, containing proposals with character, peppered with inspirations.
In this compilation, nothing old-fashioned, nothing syrupy, only eclectic and crazy tracks, at times moving, at times funny. Valley of Love puts together reinterpretations of great standards such as this Silent Night in an easylistening bossa nova version, with its choir of 15 people and original tracks.
Rock from the 50s, pop from the 90s, accents of Hip Hop are mixing very smoothly, in a joyful, surprising, yet never caustic record. Because of the spirit of Christmas! While designed to be listened with the family at the bottom of the Christmas tree, this album proposes several levels of interpretation that will delight music lovers and nostalgic grandmothers alike.
The collective Valley of Love is overflowing with spirit and references. After Phil Spector, it meets the difficult challenge to revamp the great classics of the genre. But above all, to reconcile sweet softness and creativity, armed with a great deal of second degree and boldness."
BN - I'd yell at you for listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving, but being a Dane, I doubt you care too much about Thanksgiving! If you were in the U.S., though...bang..zoom!
Well, Emusic Twitter has got me started See Fairy Tale of New York by Kirsty McColl and the Pogues. Never a hit in the USA but a multiple hit (most years at Christmas) in the UK. And yes, Thanksgiving makes no difference either to me!
It has been a trend in Denmark to import events like this from the US. Its not that long ago, that some clever business people found out that there was a lot of money to be made by importing Helloween.
But not yet thanksgiving. I does seem like a wonderful tradition, though.
BN - Absolutely no offense given. I was just joking. There is just often a bit of a battle over here about giving Thanksgiving its time and waiting on Christmas until after it. I go through it every year at home when I have to fight with my wife to keep her from putting up Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving.

It is all they say it is. Missing the liner notes though; the physical package can be had pretty affordably too.

Ooooops, sorry ! - no offence intended. . .

Helloween's from Germany, and I wouldn't think they'd be that big of a draw.
(sorry BN; I couldn't resist)
Death Grips - NO LOVE DEEP WEB
I'll spare everyone the cover art.

That's a great version of it though. I may actually need to put that one into my iTunes, so I can get a laugh whenever I listen to the album!

Thile's "difficult" album.
