maybe they actually realised that they made a mistake in the US
I seriously doubt that. All the signs in the US seem to be that emusic wants to be Amazon with Amazon pricing and somehow bring its membership along by creeping dollar increases. They are almost there. I suspect if they could swing it they would rapidly have the majors and double or triple your prices.

One of the most beautiful albums I know.
  • McD's doesn't make people fat; people make people fat
    - something similar has been said about guns.
  • - something similar has been said about guns.
That's right, it seems clear from the example of America that guns make people fat.
  • I'm still suffering from the great AT&T blackout: no TV, no net since Monday night. I had to jumpstart my heart (strong, dark coffee and toast with cream cheese, garlic and cayenne--I dare you to come near me) and get to the library just to check emails. It's harder, given that my son's on track out (the period between nine-week cycles of an academic year in a year-round school). At least I got him away from the computer and interacting with the family.

A friend once told me, "To study Russians, you have to live like Russians." She was referring to the inequalities, machismo, corruption, inconsistent consumer markets, and the perils of homemade vodka Russianist must deal with (and the strange phenomenon of Russianist who never leave Hahvahd Squahe (use your best Car Talk voice)). If you want the majors, you have to live with them. That means their manipulation of eMusic's business model to fit their interests, to the detriment of the labels that are already there. Major label content is probably more cheaply found via sales at Amazon than at eMu. Too bad Guvera hasn't updated its catalog since September.

We were luck when we bought our house 18 months ago: we were moving from an apartment, and the other homeowner was eager to move as her job was moving to Colorado Springs. We never saw her, but her real estate agent was almost useless.

Recently learned Kenny is on tour with Dave Holland, will catch them if I can!

I'm not sure the comparison holds. I make myself fat by eating McDonalds, but I kill someone else by shooting them.

I suppose I could kill someone by forcing them to eat double quarter pounders with cheese until the die (that happened in Se7en didn't it?), but that just seems mean.

    Free mix tape - good ten's R&B.

I would choose both too, like a good American supersizing his gun. Eventually I may have to find someone to sue because of having too much music though.

I keep thinking I will run out of things to download on G., but it keeps not happening. Last night I was up to 60, then rather quickly used up 51. My bottleneck is more in tagging, loading onto listening devices, and listening.

To be perfectly fair, these days it's not really McDonald's or the people making them fat. It's the hybridized, backcrossed and mutated wheat found in many different foods that not only cause people to gain weight faster, but also makes them feel as though they need to eat more.

If given the option I'd probably click on ad for that wheat to get free music too. I think I'd draw the line at gun ads though. Although I can't guarantee it.

I don't doubt that at all, they've gone down that route and there is no way out, even if it hasn't fully worked out. But maybe they have realised that they cannot take the same route in Europe. The UK and Germany, for example, have many more download services than the US, all with the majors on board. We were told (threatened?) in Nov 2011 that we would have the majors 'within a year' by the infamous Cathy, but for whatever reason it hasn't happened. I don't miss having the majors, in fact, like many I prefer it that way, but I would like the labels we have had in the past - ECM, Domino etc.

This reminds me of the times we used to have these discussions on the emusic board!! to quote "Thise were the days" Now, there must be a song title there!!!!

    @ PaulR,
You are welcome . . . I searched my library and found out that I grabbed the Group 180 albums back in 2008, they probably came up in a search for Steve Reich. These are good albums but it's a pity that they are in 80 kbps. Ubuweb has certainly improved since then.

"Passage Through a Dream offers five premiere recordings of new music by composer Phillip Schroeder—remarkably beautiful and vibrant tracks that feature lyric melodies and lush, intricate textures.

Passage Through a Dream expands and develops musical ideas found in Schroeder’s critically acclaimed 2006 CD Move in the Changing Light (Innova 655), about which Ron Shepper wrote in textura, “Schroeder generates dense masses of sparkling trills and cascades….The sound that results verges on the paradisaical … Schroeder’s glistening pieces are full of elegant nuances,” and Frank J. Oteri wrote in the American Music Center’s NewMusicBox, “You’ll keep hitting repeat on your CD player.”

Passage’s performers include Schroeder on piano and electric bass, soprano Erin Bridgeman, the multi-talented Rick Dimond on accordion and vibraphone, clarinetist/composer Michael Henson, harpist Jane Grothe, flutist Jennifer Amox, and new music clarinetist Marty Walker.

Born in 1956 in Rancho Cordova, California, Phillip Schroeder’s musical life began early and paralleled the diversity of his surroundings—living in twelve states—playing trumpet in concert bands and electric bass in rock and jazz bands, singing in choirs, conducting orchestral and chamber groups, improvising with a variety of ensembles, and concertizing as a pianist. His music for soloists, chamber ensembles, live electronics, orchestra, and choir, has been described by critics as “wonderfully evocative,” “ethereal,” and “rich in subtle detail.”
