Not music but this evening I shall be listening to and watching the same event as 15-20% of the World's population, according to one estimate I saw, but it will probably not impact most of North America. There is a football (soccer) game between the two teams that are the best supported in the world, Manchester United against Real Madrid in the second leg of a last 16 Champions League fixture. This is the biggest club sport competiton in the world. After the first leg in Madrid three weeks ago, scores are level at 1-1. There are lots of side issues too. The managers Sir Alex Fergusson and Jose Mourinho are the two most succesful in the modern era. There is a strong belief that when SAF retires (he is 71) Mourinho will take over from him. Real Madrid's star player is Christiano Ronaldo, rated as one of the top two players in the world. He used to play for Manchester United before moving to Madrid for £80m three years ago. There is a lot of evidence that he may return to United in June. These two teams really are the best supported in the world. It came home to me in a small village in the Gambia where everyone was soccer-mad and these were the two most popular teams. United claim to have 20m plus fans in China alone. Throughout Africa and Asia therer are supporter clubs for both teams. As SAF said in his press conference yesterday ""This is what it is all about - a packed Old Trafford, the floodlights on, the pitch glistening and two of the greatest and most romantic clubs in the game about to do battle." Mourinho claimed "the world will stop to watch" It really is that significant!
Good morning music, even if it's not the most relaxing in the universe®. From 1996; Metheny plays acoustic on at least some tracks. Part of my Charlie Haden Guvera initiative...
BC: - "Sometimes this remastering project produces a flush of embarassment. History can be unforgiving and it's painful to be presented with your own grotesque mistakes from the past.
The bonus track for this cd was such a lapse of judgement. Why ,oh why, did I take a fine piece like Premonition 11 and EXTEND it with sections from another (later) era of the Dots? In fact the tail end of this piece comes from Maria Dimension sessions. WHAT WAS I THINKING?
No excuses here, I take the blame fully. . . ."

Lowlife - yes it was a really good game for the first hour. It seems to me that only 2 people thought it was a sending off! I hope there is a better outcome tomorrow evening.
RER Megacorp/Emusic: John Edwards - double bass, cello, drum programming
Caroline Kraabel - baritone sax
Sue Lynch - tenor sax
Rosa Lynch-Northover - keyboards, percussion
Adrian Northover - soprano, sopranino and alto saxes
David Petts - tenor sax, noise generator
- "They just get better and better with each release. A sextet now (acoustic but with some discreet electronics), the compositional tone has also changed; its less austere and warmer now - though still pared back. And its beautifully recorded and mixed with a wide variety of very crafted sonorities, extremely carefully placed. This seems to be the pivot on which everything turns: a Feldmanesque integrity to every sound, sometimes offset in pieces that are built around involved but linear drum patterns that then have several defined and separated layers of activity overlaid or intertwined; some driving forward, some holding the line, some trying to break free, but it always comes back to the particularity of sounds and to the sounds having their space to be in. And stretched harmonies. Within all that, the range is wide and disparate, with a great deal of fine detail and careful use of dynamics (vertical and horizontal). Played by great (and disciplined) players. This is a very stimulating and unusual CD, very composed, with some independent parts, and theres no on else working near this ground. Plus they arent the old gang but a (relatively) new voice thats still evolving. So, time to check if you havent yet."

They just announced the lineup for Soundset 2013 (the local hip hop festival), and it includes Snoop and Busta Rhymes (as well as my recent fave Joey Bada$$). So pumped.

Whilst getting the previous image from Amazon I discovered this, an earlier album, not available on emusic. So, of course, I had to download it!
