Ben Cosgrove - "Yankee Division"
-The dude started following me on Twitter, and as I always do when there's a sign that some streamed music might ensue, I followed the link to his site. This music falls in the same area as, say, Neil Cowley Trio or Badly Drawn Boy or Peter Broderick. Instrumental music, piano-centric, but he adds in some percussion and horns and banjo and strings at various times in various songs, and it all just comes out real pretty. I haven't listened to it long enough to really determine how much substance the music has, but it's really made a great first impression on me. I think it said it was released back in 2011.
I liked it BN, but I'll quote Jonahpwll, as a far more experienced reviewer
Colin Stetson, New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light: Third and final volume in Stetsons New History Warfare trilogy. An adventurous tour-de-force, Stetsons saxophone technique and strategic use of microphones delivers an intense performance (with no dubs or loops or effects) that gives the impression that its more than just him and his sax. Bon Ivers Justin Vernon sits in for a few tunes, adding a stunning turn on the album opener, and some nice harmonization on a few other tunes providing a little sunny warmth to balance the winter gusts of Stetsons sax. Just plain brilliant. Highly Recommended.
Released 19 February 2013
Nels Cline - guitar
Ellery Eskelin - tenor saxophone
Rob Sudduth - tenor saxophone
Ben Goldberg - contra-alto clarinet, Bb clarinet
Ches Smith - drums
- " I have been developing my abilities on the Eb contra alto clarinet (a weird member of the family, pitched below the bass clarinet) for some years, mostly in my work with the group Tin Hat. Somehow it occurred to me to have a band where I was the bass player, on this instrument.
Of course the group would need two of my tenor saxophone heroes (Ellery Eskelin and Rob Sudduth), a guitar genius (and now certifiable rock star) (Nels Cline), and the deeply tumultuous drummer Ches Smith.
So after finishing up the premier of my latest giant project, Orphic Machine, in March of 2012, I wrote a bunch of songs and assembled this crew at the Bunker studio in Williamsburg one day in May. We learned the tunes, rehearsed, and recorded them all in just a few hours, and the results are extraordinary -- raw, dire, and to the point."
- Bob Goldberg.
On self imposed exile to the wild's of North Essex, The Glimmer Room continue to walk their own path. Evoking a rose tinted view of a long lost rural England where ever they tread. With music that feels like an old black and white film basking in the idyllic attitudes and the soft tones of a time long gone.
Great ambient and the best thing to come out of Essex in a long time.

I've returned to this to finish playing it - from memory it was originally a double LP plus a 7" EP as well.
Bob Mould - Workbook
May need to follow this up with some Kanye. He just tweeted "June eighteen". It's known that he has been working on a new album. Sweetness.
