Rumpistol - Talk To You EP
    - "With this EP, “Talk to You”, the pleasing dissonance his original style creates has been tightened and infused with a fresh sense of purpose and a sudden directness, with much of this coming from the vocals that dominate every track.
Rumpistol employs a mixture of cut-up and processed sampling, synthesized vocals and vocals sung by the producer himself, adding a new dimension to the sound.
The key to the EP is how direct it is. It’s as if the accumulated ideas and themes of the past have been pulled together and re-carved quickly to strip away their excess. In line with this approach and to “avoid fiddling around with the tracks forever”, a tight deadline was imposed on the recording process.
The resulting immediacy of sound and emotion has strong references to soul and R&B, with the essentially elements of IDM, glitch and dubstep alongside, albeit with a wonky twist.
A style which Rumpistol has tongue-in-cheek referred to as “Broken Soul"

    - "Jens Berents Christiansen aka Rumpistol is a very enthusiastic soul. He releases exciting underground acts on his own label Rump Recordings. Moreover, under the moniker Rumpistol he has released three albums full of melodic and bubbling electronica. Opus three from Rumpistol is called "Dynamo". Here the Dane has turned his ears towards London and added a little dubstep to his humming sound universe. And his eclectic mix of glitch, ambient and minimalism does not deny him also putting accessible melodies in the mix as well as orchestrating strings.
Rumpistol released his critically acclaimed debut album in 2003. The album received airplay by the late John Peel at his legendary BBC Radio 1 show, and several tracks from the album were licensed to different compilations. The follow-up ”Mere Rum” from 2005 also received great responses, and caused Rumpistol to play an extensive amount of concerts in Denmark and abroad. Rumpistol has done remixes for tons of acts: Efterklang, System, I Got You On Tape, Snöleoparden & Analogik among others. He has appeared on Baduns debutalbum, and collaborated with Equadorian artist V8, the singer Tusnelda and freejazz drummer Toke Tietze Mortensen (Yoyooyoy).
Rumpistol has performed live at festivals such as MUTEK (CAN) NO+CH (China), Fusion (D), Roskilde Festival (DK), STRØM (DK), Norberg (SE), Amsterdam Dance Event (NL) and Electric Picnic (IE) plus he has played numerous of concerts in Europe, USA, Mexico and Russia. In 2008 Rumpistol was commissioned by The Danish Film Institute to create a live soundtrack for the Russian silent movie ”Cosmic Voyage” from 1936 and in 2009 he wrote music for a modern interpretation of Hans Christian Andersens short story ”The Little Match Girl”, staged by the Apollo Theater.
In 2010 he was nominated for the Qwartz Electronic Music Award in the Discovery category for his album "Dynamo".
As a musician, Jens Berents Christiansen has a background in different bands, where he played guitar, synths, and sang, but since the year 2000, he has been concentrating on the Rumpistol project plus different commissioned work for TV, theater, film and games. "

Actually listened to this last thing last night. It's been a favorite album, on MP3, since it came out. On record stoire day I bought a CD copy, and last night was the first time we listened to it on CD on the good speakers. Some albums the difference is not so huge. This one...oh my goodness. Some tracks it felt like hearing alternate takes or almost-faithful cover versions.

    Now:

    confused, what's your last.fm handle?

And bn, BT, amclark2, others, when you are going to start your last.fm accounts? :)
  • I'd almost forgotten about 'Trans'! And then he did that Rockabilly album, only to get sued by his label.

First time listening to this straight through - Cool stuff, healthy helpings of R/B and Hip-Hop influences, along with spacey jamness.

    - Hmmm ?
I looked at it a couple of times and as far as I can see, what it basically does is statistics.
I guess I'm not a statistic minded person and I don't even know what the word scrobble means.

@kargatron; I'm there; same name, but you will be disappointed - I do absolutely nothing with it. I signed up to keep in touch with people from emu; then I discovered emusers.

@brighternow; me neither with statistics. My iTunes contains exactly zero useful information about my music habits. I'm not exactly sure what scribbling is either, although I think I've done it once or twice.

@doofy; oddly Everybody's Rockin' is readily available while Trans remains out of print; I got mine used from amazon; but I really like Trans. Although who knows - maybe I'd really like Everybody's Rockin too.

Ps Brighternow - I've never thought of lastfm as a place to go for statistics but rather as a way to make sure the rest of the world is exposed to the music that I 'd like to hear. I've got 8 lastfm friends and through them I'm able to visit a lot more to see what folks are listening to. I'll peek in once and a while and do a little exploring. You don't even have to sign in to do it. I guess it's the same reason i post what I'm listening to right now right here. I meant right here
I just like to give a shout out to those folks that make my ears perk.

And I have no idea what a scrobble is either, by the way?

Thanks for the James Walbourne Tip, it is indeed Muswell Hill and the pub is the Green Man. I used to work opposite it when working for a video game company. It was also a nightclub under lots of names best known was Manhattans and was known as one of the roughest clubs in North London, even the bar snacks came with attitude. Now another safe gastropub.

BTW congrats on the title, please take points off Chelsea this week

  • Yes, last.fm is a much more efficient way to access the kind of information found for instance in this thread, assuming you listen a lot digitally. Scrobbling is just having your digital players automatically record plays to last.fm, it's free and effortless after setup. I use last.fm to "eavesdrop" on friends' listening often.

amclark2, if iTunes is irrelevant to your music habits, does that mean you primarily listen to cds? (Scrobbling of course is available for a large number of software players.)
