A leading catalyst behind the rise of American electronic music, composer Vladimir Ussachevsky was born November 3, 1911 in Hailar, Manchuria; he emigrated to the U.S. in 1930, and after graduating from Pomona College went on to study at the Eastman School of Music. There he composed his first major works, among them 1935's Theme and Variations and 1938's Jubilee Cantata, as well as various other pieces for piano, vocal, choral and orchestral performance. Upon earning his Ph.D. in 1939, Ussachevsky joined the faculty at Columbia University in 1947; around this time he began making his first forays into electronic music, culminating a few years later with his acquisition of an Ampex tape recorder. In 1952, he and colleague Otto Luening presented the first tape music performance ever given in the U.S., where among the pieces premiered was Ussachevsky's musique concr
After the arid wastes of U and the narrow pass of V we descend thankfully into the verdant pastures of W.
Wbaum - Spaces
Deliciously cavernous. One of the best Audio Gourmet servings.
Will & Tarl - Angel n the House (link > Soundcloud)
Aptly described by the Norman Records reviewer as "one of the best droney type things I've heard in ages".
One of my favorites. Looking forward to an early March Chicago Symphony Orchestra concert, where the pipe organ will be all fired up for the "Organ Symphony"!
From the blog with the 24 TG cassettes; BT - I thought somebody had posted that before, but those old links didn't work for me, these do. Has anybody had any luck finding IRC-01 though? I don't see it there.
@amc: there's only a one character difference between the urls-- dieordiy.blogspot.com vs dieordiy2.blogspot.com -- along with the message "we're back." Same people, same links. We might start counting the days until this one is shut down.
BT; oh. Well I guess I just got there in time this time. It seems odd to me that anyone would have an interest in shutting that down. I like the site's explanation of the difference between piracy and theft; theft removes something, piracy copies something.
@amc2, that's actually weird, because historically pirates tended to remove things and sink the vessel they were contained in, which seems more like über-thieving.
Xavier Naidoo - Alles Kann Besser Werden
This was actually the album that weaned me off of keeping up with his releases. It's not bad, just not captivating, and there is so much of it (35 tracks) that it left me feeling glutted with OK songs rather than eager for the next release. I'm a couple behind now.

Since the new one is supposed to be a sequel to this one, I figured I should refresh my memories.

Well executed American Primitive from a young guitarists. The transfer from tape could be a little better. $3.
Earlier:
Nuet by Dorena, perhaps my favorite among the Deep Elms.
Just announced that they are coming to town in April. I think I need a ticket.

Working my way through the John Martyn Island Years box set, forgot how good some of his albums are
Xavier Naidoo - Telegramm für X
Still far and away the best of his solo outings to my ear. Great stuff.
Xenuphobe - 2.0 Electrolux
Vignettes by Qualia (recommended by The Sirens' Sound ... and by me): serene, delicate post-rock. Beautiful. NYOP
