    The Brambles - Charcoal
If I had actually bought this during its year of release it might have made my end of year list.

Harp and kora -- amazing! Better yet: 7 tracks, 50+ minutes and only $3.43 at emu.
  • Nils Frahm, Felt. Then Screws. Then Felt again.

    Too good for words.
  • Gordon-Barenaked Ladies
  • Thanks BT, I follow that up now. 7 tracks means £2.94 for me, but actually £1.40 when I take my bonus into account. That is why I stick with emusic despite all my moans etc.

If you are still an emusic member this is their free 2014 Sampler. I wouldn't like to explain the cover! It is the usual curate's egg, but different people will like different tracks, and it is free...

The experimental duo of Pete Astor and David Sheppard, otherwise known as Ellis Island Sound, return with an insistent, percussive set that makes use of African-influenced guitar lines, dub effects and wailing trombone. Seven years ago, they tried their hand at avant-garde acoustic styles with The Good Seed, recorded in a Norfolk chapel, using folk instruments and drum machines, but their new and mostly instrumental studio set veers from pounding riffs to globally influenced ambient styles. The opening Nairobi/Koln sets that mood with glockenspiel effects and driving, insistent waves of percussion set against drifting trombone and deadpan vocals. Elsewhere, there's a fine, slinky guitar riff and trombone dub effects on We Do Not, an atmospheric mood piece, Offices at Night, and the slower Schwitters in Lakeland, on which they fade into gentle background music.

    - "Danish sextet, Tales of Murder and Dust, was formed in 2007 with the desire to play noisy and cool rock music. Drawing on inspirations from especially surf music and film scores from classic Spaghetti Westerns, the band quickly gained the attention of the Danish press. When the band released their first EP in 2009, called Peyote, Tales of Murder and Dust was critically praised for their slow and dreamy soundscapes with attention to folk-like details. . . ."

. . . "The band’s second EP, Skeleton Flowers, was released to wide acclaim on the 6th of June 2013. Skeleton Flowers consist of four tracks mixing cool post punk settings with the cinematic and beautiful soundscapes the band is known for, making the record an awesome example of the musical diversity the band is capable of."

From the Mouth of the Sun - Woven Tide
The trouble with reviewing things is it tends to make me listen to them 10-15 times in two weeks and then neglect them for a long time. Nice to get back to this - really good album. Review.

Re that album that Brighternow posted just above, A Proposal for T, on the archive page it says about one of the musicians:
Antonio Della Marina is an Italian electronic composer and sound artist, who for several years has focused on working with sinusoids.
    Wikipedia says:
A sinusoid is a small blood vessel that is a type of capillary ... Sinusoids are found in the liver, lymphoid tissue, endocrine organs, and hematopoietic organs such as the bone marrow and the spleen.

    Nice, thanks BT.
  • A sinusoid is also apparently a math term that is:
A curve similar to the sine function but possibly shifted in phase, period, amplitude, or any combination thereof.

Based on a search for sinusoids music that seems to be the usage, although I have yet to find a link explaining exactly how it applies to electronic music.

Bandcamp streaming; this is pretty great.
  • @Craig, ah, that makes more sense. Probably involves killing fewer people to make the music too.

    Various - Paws for Thought.

Some good tracks, some less good tracks. Will cherry pick this one. Proceeds to hospice care.
  • @amc2, I love about two thirds of that album. "Always" cracks me up.
