Catching up today. I'm in the middle of a three week spell where I'm spending much of the time in London primary schools observing students teach, but not today, so time to do other things. That and the soccer mean I've got behind here. My train listening has mainly been jazz and indie, but I'm now about to play Purple Rain a few days late having read the thread above!
Just been playing a CD called Motown Memories. I couldn't find a cover but no surprise as I think it was a promotional CD in the mid 90s from one of our leading high street stores
This album is reviewed in a very recent Bird is the Worm article - actually Jonah's email came about an hour ago, which reminded me I had downloaded this following a Jazz Pick mention but not played it!
Good one from a couple years ago - I've recently noticed several good albums that slipped off my radar, because they were acquired in the midst of the last great Guvera binge!
Listening to more of the madrigal side of this set. I believe that this set compiles six albums: two, or one third of the set, are duets between Deller and Lutenist/Guitarist Desmond Dupre; four are madrigals and motets performed by the Deller Consort. I was thinking more of the former when I bought the set and, indeed, these songs are cool. Some of lyrics that made their way into American folk songs, like Don't Let Your Deal Go Down. However, I think the latter are more interesting. Wonderful performances, with less countertenor out front.
I bought this one and the English Folk Songs today, but the Amazon Music Player refuses to load fully, so I cannot download them. So I called Amazon support, and I got a guy who I swear was Tuco from the Good the Bad and the Ugly. After ten minutes of not really being much help, he gives me my money back (all two bucks) and I get to keep the albums. A week or so ago I reported a bad file in the Handel Oratorio big box, and they refunded my 99 cents.
My son recently had his first piano recital, and one of the other performers sang Hallelujah, but he was around that age where his voice was mid change. I said to my wife later that his voice couldn't pick between Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley. She didn't get it.
I'm listening to Univision announcers call the US v. Belgium match. I don't speak Spanish, but ESPN won't let me watch on my computer or phone. So Spanish it is.
Really good Americana/alt-country. Jamestown Revival is a duo of male singers who harmonize together incredibly well. Very well may make my 'Best of 2014' list.
From the very first strains of Fur Coat Blues, the duo of Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance from Magnolia, Texas will capture your heart and have you humming along to eleven tracks that seem vaguely familiar, yet refreshing. There has been many a band that seems to have fallen from the Avett Brothers family tree over the last few years, which is a testament to their influence on the new generation of Appalachian rock and roll. Clay and Chance could be the prize fruits of this harvest with a splendid mixture of catchy lyrics and toe tapping rhythms on their debut full length album. - No Depression
I wanted to listen to Joshua Tree, but I apparently don't have copy. Not entirely sure how that came to be. I could have sworn I had a copy, but then I couldn't say when I last listened. Oh well; this will do for now.

Thanks Jonah and BT
Plong42; yes, I see that now. Still tempted to pre-buy in case the price goes up.
Mugen - Volume 1: MrDougDoug / Mukqs
Cool. Weird. NYOP. And there's a whole bunch more in the series. I'll be going back.
