Now on Bandcamp: Are You Receiving Us, Planet Earth ?! - "Are You Receiving us, Planet Earth?! is the first effort composed by Edward Ka-Spel & Philippe Petit, both playing various instruments and electronics. Their exchanges ran over the course of two years trying to create something which would meet their usual aesthetics and at the same time bering them to newer territories.
The seeds were sown on exotic stringed instruments by Philippe on sultry nights in Marseilles.Long wandering instrumentals ,sometimes angular, sometimes mysterious ,always operating in their own peculiar universe.
Through the medium of cyberspace ,these landscapes were delivered to Edward Ka-spel in London, who detected hit potential, at least with the inhabitants of the planet Glurg, and duly added vocals plus other underlying, utterly disturbing elements.
There was a logic forming in this voyage , although by the time EK delivered his interpretation back to PP,the dark matter was literally dripping from the project.Philippe added the final touches ,leaving the inevitable question
Planet Earth- are you receiving us? Its been a while Planet Earth, are you, in fact, STILL THERE???"

-So lovely. I've had this for a very long time and still enjoy it immensely. A chamber trio, haunting and warm. Not sure if I scooped it up off Amie St. or if it was a sure-why-not purchase from eMusic, back when the main page would have that huge rectangle of thumbnail album cover images and I'd go from one to the next and just listen to what was what. Wherever I got it, though, one of the better purchases I made.
-Ambient guitar noodling with effects, working a little melodic riff over and over, the kind of music that NPR uses as bumper music between shows and in the background of a voice-over. Pretty stuff. He did a cover of an Efterklang song that, unfortunately, doesn't ever appear to have been released (heard it on the Efterklang site). I enjoy a lot of his music, been happy with everything I've purchased.
EDIT: Hey! Here's a youtube stream of that Efterklang cover. The song is called "Step Aside." It's even prettier than the original, which is a hell of an accomplishment, because it's one of Efterklang's prettiest tunes. Here it is...
Seriously I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying the Chilton biography I'm reading. I recommend it even if you don't like his stuff (although, if you don't like his stuff you're crazy).
@bremble, enjoyed that. And will chase down some of the tunes. Didn't think I was much of a fan of Stan Getz, but really enjoyed that first number. Nice choice of songs.
GP - Thanks. The Getz is from an album called Focus that had arrangements by Eddie Sauter. "I'm Late, I'm Late" is probably the strongest cut, but the whole album is very strong. A Penguin Guide to Jazz 4-star album.
Now listening to the new Eno/Hyde Lp - High Life. Very good.

Still one of the best albums in the history of music.
That's better! Thank God for my local used cd store!
