    Bintou Sidibe

    From Awesome Tapes From Africa
This cassette = all superior everything. Wassoulou rhythms fly by thusly: confident female vocalist Bintou Sidibe leads kamelngoni and flute on a call-and-response-fueled country drive. Oh and best supporting actor goes to the pure-toned guitar poking its head out at crucial moments. I am finding recording this nonstop awesome, keeping it on repeat for the past two days. Doubtless worth a 30-minute pause in whatever you’re doing today.

  • Going with the Bintou Sidibe, thanks amc2.
  • Kate Carr - Return to New Caledonia

Nice; I could see this growing on me.

    Basement Jaxx - Rooty

A second try, years removed from my last listen. Still meh.

    Grateful Dead 1970-06-24; Capitol City.

    Nice.

Kind of fascinating 1980 album of mix-and-match quartets by piano powerhouse McCoy Tyner. Wikipedia tells me that John Abercrombie is playing "electric mandolin."

    Brad Mehldau Trio Live

I remained unsure about the Mehldau trio albums on the first couple of listens through (which given that I have seven of them and a couple are double albums was actually quite a lot of listening); I am now through the burn-in period and starting to find them addictive.
  • Bunch of really good mixtapes have dropped over the last week. Currently on:

  • Farewell by the Jon Armstrong Jazz Orchestra (thanks JP)

This is the fourth or fifth great album of orchestral jazz I have purchased this year. Is there a trend?
  • Grateful Dead - 1986-07-07; morbid curiosity (day before the coma) but I still found it to be an enjoyable show, with some guest appearances by Dylan.

James Ferraro - 100% - a wonderful collection of ringtone length tracks; worth listening to if you have 8 minutes to spare.

Listening to some Harpsichord Concertos from the Big Bach Set - I really like these multiple harpsichord ones.

I noticed that the Bigger Bach Set that I already bought has a Saint Matthew Passion on it; anyone know if the newly released one is the same/different/better/worse?
