While out in the car a few minutes ago I heard Fairy-tale of New York by Kirsty McColl and the Pogues on the radio for the first time this Christmas. Now I know December 25th is near!
For me the first two tracks of Popular Problems are superb, I also like A Street, but the album tails off for me after that. I guess I like Leonard Cohen best when he is being bluesy and menacing.

I've not downloaded the last three tracks of Popular Problems yet - next Monday before I get more Freegal credits. Perhaps I should listen to then on iTunes first?
Drawing Hands are a Leeds-based quartet led by composer and double-bassist Sam Jackson. They primarily perform original music inspired by 17th century counterpoint, traditional English folk and 21st century jazz.
Alto Saxophone - Jack Chandler
Tenor Saxophone - Dan Barker-Bey
Acoustic Guitar - Harry Orme
Double Bass - Sam Jackson
All compositions by Sam Jackson except 'Ancora Qui' by Ennio Morricone. Artwork by Benjamin Saville. This music was recorded in the spring of 2014 in the crypt of Christ Church, Liversedge. Special thanks to James Hamilton for recording, mixing and mastering the music, and for his continuing assistance and encouragement.
We've made this music available for anybody to stream or download for free, simply because we're proud of it and we'd like lots of you to hear it. However, as you can imagine there were various expenses in putting together this product, so your contributions are greatly appreciated.

The Seattle jazz scene is bursting with talent and is a true hidden gem of the jazz world. Seattlites know how special it is, but word is only now starting to get out to the rest of the world. I decided to shine a spotlight on some of the marvelous composers we have here in The Town with "Homegrown", the fifth album from the Jason Parker Quartet.
The album features tracks by Josh Rawlings, Thomas Marriott, Cynthia Mullis, Jeremy Jones, Hadley Caliman, Marc Seales, Troy Kendrick and myself. Many other tracks were submitted for consideration (see the list below), but it's these 10 tracks that made for the strongest album.
I'm incredibly proud and honored to be able to record and release this wonderful music from my friends and colleagues in the Seattle jazz scene. I'm also thrilled that my working band has now been together for 8 years and is still going strong. Many thanks to Josh Rawlings, Evan Flory-Barnes and D'Vonne Lewis for sticking by me and contributing so much, and to Cynthia Mullis for being the 5th Beatle.

Pretty sure that the New Jazz Records label just above for the "Drawing Hands" is the creation of James Hamilton, whose James Hamilton Jazz Orchestra album was the initial post on the Throwing Punches at the Hurricane Jazz at Bandcamp thread.
This is why it's kind of pointless for me to do a "Best of 2014" list...The album I got the most out of this year is a 2013 reissue of music from the 70s! Still exploring its glorious depths. The climax (as it were) is Jordan's "Glass Bead Games," which seems to be available at iTunes but not elsewhere.

My top 12 of the year are pretty much set; having a harder time deciding what belongs in the last 8.

ETA, this is really very enjoyable.
I'm not giving a link because going there eats a ton of my data allowance. (I'm on a phone; no wi-fi)
