Thanks, BN, and the best-of-2013 list that this appeared on - enjoying it!
And it led me to this article about spotify, digital music, how artists can make a living, etc, which was very interesting. Some familiar themes, but some detail I had not thought about.
Ugh, corrupted ipod. Wiping it and restoring will probably fix it but I don't have time. I guess today I will be listening to whatever it still condescends to play for me.
Not sure whether it's me or the album, but this sounds like I should really like it, but somehow that last vital spark is not there. Like when I order seafood salads in Michigan, and it looks like all the things I like, but in the end does not taste of the ocean.
OMG ! Andere - Waking Life - "Initially conceptualized when both artists were living on the east coast, the recording process for 'Waking Life' didn't begin until after Ritger's relocation to Colorado in the summer of 2011. The album began as a humble stash of loops and samples that Lee passed off to Ritger, who proceeded to mold them into the bedrock of the album. These basic arrangements were then methodically volleyed between the two artists over the course of the next year, resulting in two sprawling compositions that unspool into space as a trail of unhurried mist, separating the anxieties of the everyday from the subdued pleasures of the subconscious. 'Waking Life' manages to successfully combine the aesthetic cues that each contributor has built their reputation upon, with Anduin's smoke-hued synthetic pads and found sound rhythmics finding a worthy counterpoint in Radere's subtle guitar work and penchant for slow-paced evolution. In solidarity with Slow Machete, all proceeds from these recordings go back to support the Haitian people through education and agricultural programs in the Cap Haitien area." SMTG / Morr Music GBR
I'm feeling all Christmas-y. The first 10 people that whisper me their email will get a little something-something from me via Bandcamp (and it isn't Goth or Punk so you got that going for you).
Downloaded this for free from emusic quite a long time ago, finally added it to iTunes and giving it a listen. Very enjoyable so far. Given the way it is tagged on emusic I have no idea which artist is which track.
Electronic noise that part of the use and handling of loops and small fragments of sound, full of contrasts and thoroughness. Compositions characterized by a sound palette intentionally minimal, creating beautiful and intimate collages with instruments (pianos, guitars ...) along with digital processes and field recordings (voices, urban sounds...).
Sounds decent so far, some nice moments. Brighternow, you may like this. Free at the archive.
Double disc comp Essential Collection by Omar and the Howlers, a roots-rock/blues band that has been on my horizon for a while - at $6.49 at eMu this collection is fine in my book.
Among the jazz things I've enjoyed most this year - stripped-down Latin "fusion," I guess. Extra points because I saw them from the front row at Jazz Showcase, one of the great venues in town.

There's a lot of what is described as Dusty African Grooves at this site - African and Latin American music from mid 60s to mid 80s. Worth an explore

#19 from Jazz Loft, John Hicks - Hicks Time. This is solo piano, sort of in the McCoy Tyner tradition.
#20 from Jazz Loft - L'Ensemble Pierre Labb
I've resisted playing seasonal music so far, but it'll soon be Kirsty McColl and the Pogues!!

This, on the other hand, is better than I remembered. I don't even clearly remember buying it. Enjoying it now, though.

The Punk in me wants to kick the ass of the Goth in me. The Goth in me want to smother the Punk in me.
In any case... I need to get a physical copy of that Sisters' DVD to go along with my Fields Of The Nephilim - Visionary Heads (Brixton Acadamy, London, England, 06.10.1990)... i'mma gonna see if I can queue that up tomorrow at some point.

I kind of forget about this album the rest of the year. Still not totally sure what I think about it, but I think I like it a little more each year.
Then:
Lovely - thank you kargatron!
