@Brighternow, I think that live performance is delightful. Not yet sure how best to purchase this music in the US, but there are 2 discs, one live + one studio.
I also found this animation showing the execution of the cover artwork. Amazing artistry, most fully appreciated by those of us who have some fumbling experience with digital imaging software..
Thanks, fascinating . . . I wouldn't know how to begin.
Just in case anyone should be interested, about 33 min. in, Jens speaks about when they are out playing gigs, he use to be very very funny (agreed by the adience). But on this ocation it feels very awkward to tell jokes in an intimate atmosphere like this with friends and family gathered in a private house and some good friends playing his music. In fact he was so moved by the situation that it was almost more than he could handle.
"What follows in ‘Absence’ is a cornucopia of eclectic, ambient, even transitory sounds build by a whole host of talented artists. Ideas blossom, bringing the year of planning, design, and wonderful curation by Arash Akbari to life in the most intriguing and triumphant of ways. Forged from a freedom to envisage and experiment, it’s a wonder to hear the full expanding scale of Iran’s music world come to life." ANTHEM REVIEW
"Tune in as Vienna's Radian pay their first visit to WFMU in nearly a decade! 15 years into their career the trio of Stefan Nemeth, Martin Brandlmayr, and John Norman continue to shapeshift with off-kilter rhythms, buzzing static, high-frequency modulation, and microscopic grooveriding. ~Daniel Blumin
This is the solo debut from a clearly talented young Italian guitarist, one whose chops are impressive and whose ideas are consistently interesting, if not always as well organized as they probably should be. Poste E Telegrafi consists mainly of duets, with a couple of solo tracks and one trio performance thrown in as well, and it feels like something of a grab bag of influences and styles: on "Western Soda" Stefana plays a banjo while gritty looped sounds grind darkly in the background, the whole thing evoking the sound of trains and a sort of abstract hobo imagery; the multi-tracked solo composition "Semi Tostati di Cielo" starts out sweet and gentle (with faint wood blocks bringing to mind an Ennio Morricone soundtrack), then suddenly becomes clattery and foreboding before settling down again -- the whole thing feels as if it were spliced together rather haphazardly, but it's not bad. The legendarily quirky guitarist Marc Ribot is somewhat wasted on "Poste E Telegrafi Blues," a sonically interesting track that doesn't really do much or go anywhere, but the gorgeous and simple "Fiori Campionati" puts slide guitarist Leo Abrahams together with Stefana to much more pleasing effect. It's definitely a mixed bag, but overall this is an impressive debut.
ETA: This Soundcloud link only part 1 of a two track album where Andreas builds up to the most gorgeous finale in "Andra Sidan" - It's gonna take a pretty strong year of 2016 to beat this from a number one at my 2016 list.
