Just arrived from Germany - available from Mode soon, probably now. Good to see these talks (5 hours!) available in audio and in English translation book-form. The audio, for many years, was my way of relaxing at bedtime - my iPod with the talks eventually lulling me to sleep with their gentle voices and friendly rapport at my bedside. At first, I was awake listening to what they had to say to one another, but after getting to know the talks, it evolved into a relaxing slumber.
Thanks to Germanprof for pointing out Tomeka Reid the other day. I knew that name rang a bell and sure enough, I had it in my SFL, thanks to a post by Doofy last October.
eta thanks again for a great listen.....and more exploring.
ETA, for those who like gentle piano things like Library Tapes, Otto Totland, Nils Frahm, etc, this new Ostermeier album is right in that territory and nice.
Well, once again late for the game. I don't have any Mary Halvorson in my library that I'm aware of and nothing in the SFL. I did a search of the boards & I see she's been mentioned a lot (thanks to amclark2 for FMA tip) and I'm surprised I didn't recognize her name. I've added lots of interesting male guitar players to the library lately so it's great to be able to find some more women to add to it. I'll start here and work back.... ps - teriffic!
- released May 31, 2016
Chris Corsano - drums and percussion
Massimo Pupillo - electric bass
- Thanks GP . . .
I'm curious about how Johann Bourquenez is making those sounds on the Iapetus track. - It sounds like a combination of playing the strings with the hand and using the keys.
Normally I'd say go with Halvorson, just because Moulder is local and there's plenty of opportunities to go see him live (whereas Halvorson is only coming through town now and then).
But in this case, that Moulder show has him performing in an art gallery while somebody paints as he's playing. That's gonna be something different. Go see Moulder. With the Hungry Brain back in business and partnering up with Constellation to perpetually taunt me for ever leaving Chicago in the first place, I'm sure Halvorson will swing through again.
There's a jazz scene in the Minneapolis area. Shifting Paradigm is doing some good stuff with some nifty releases. There's several musicians from that area I can name off the top of my head.
