Every time I see that Tommy Flanagan picture my first thought is "who posted a picture of my dad?" My dad's admittedly a white guy and not a pianist, but between the mustache, glasses and facial expression they could be half brothers or something.

Was just reading something about Schubert, esp as his appearance contrasted with Beethoven's:

Schubert, on the other hand, was under five feet tall, bespectacled, and pudgy, “looking not like a god of music but like a harried Viennese clerk with a head-cold,” as a character in J.M. Coetzee’s Summertime puts it. His friends called him “Schwammerl,” mushroom.

Link to NYRB review of newly published book of Schubert songs.  Evidence of my bibliomania, that the review made me covet this book, despite my near-total ignorance of the subject.

  • Acid Mothers Temple (and something or other) - Starless and Bible Black Sabbath

I very frequently feel like a harried Viennese clerk with a head cold. A almost never feel like a God of music.
  • Erik Satie - Socrate - Orchestral version.

I'm not sure the version or recording; I got it from emusic though...
  • Nils Frahm - Solo
  • Transfer of Energy [Feelings of Power]
Egyptrixx - Transfer of Energy [Feelings of Power]

Opening for Caribou on Sunday.  I never miss opening bands, but I have a feeling I'm not going to enjoy this performance.

The doctor is in!  From Eddie's Wikipedia page:

'Though he undertook his residency in psychiatry, he practiced general medicine[3] from 1975 to 1985 in San Francisco, part-time for about four hours a day working at a small clinic. Henderson said, "The head doctor knew I was into music and he hired me with the stipulation that whenever I get tours I can go and come as I please. They would even pay me when I was gone. It was lovely", he recalled. "I just wanted to play music. But I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd ever have a chance to play with the big guys."'
