  • Indeed, Rickie seems to come through town pretty regularly.  One of the funny (if a little sad) things she talks about is what a hustle it is to make a living in the biz these days....Not the first time I've heard that from an old pro on tour. She has a new album coming up via Pledge Music.

Hey ! - that Vanilla Fudge album is actually a new album , at first I thought it was just another compilation.
  • BN, I have still got a handul of LPs boxed up, and that John Mayall record is one of them.  Couldn't bear to let it go

@Doofy - It's not his best but it would be a shame to let it go . . .

From the massive hatOLOGY input on €music:
    - "Two different temperaments, the same background – this observation was the basis of the idea of inviting eRikm and Fennesz to form a duo for the first time. A few days before the duo premiered at the Donaueschinger Musiktage 2003 the musicians met in the SWR studio to try out strategies for playing together. This CD captures the two best takes from these studio sessions along with the recording of the festival concert, which lasted about forty minutes. Although they are much more abstract than the rock-like Donaueschinger concert, the studio takes reveal most strikingly that the new duo is united in inner harmony."
     — Reinhard Kager (translated by Friederike Kulcsar)

Yeah, the Fudge is all covers, but it's been a fun retro-ride.

In '75, I had just pulled an all-nighter at the radio station -
filling in for a no-show DJ. I was waiting for my replacement
to show up and was anxious whether I'd make it to school
later that morning 'cause that guy wasn't there yet either
and I was the only one at the studio. So instead of continuing in
free-form mode, I decided to just put on The Turning Point and
just let it play straight thru with just a flip to side 2 when needed.
After about a half-hour, Walter, the engineer, burst thru the door
downstairs, flies up the stairs and charges into the studio and says,
"Take that shit off!! We don't play that kind of crap here! You can
hear that kind of crap over at "The ZOO" (the local album-rock station)
and we don't do that here!" It turns out that Walter was supposed to be
the next guy on after me and was over a half-hour late for his shift.
Yelling match ensued. I was so tired and I just quit right there -
walked right out of the studio. I still like that album, but this is the
unfortunate memory that arises. Aaaah, the high drama of it all...

  • A funny story - Thanks.

Yeah, the Fudge is all covers

    - Yeah, even on their first album from 1967 (People Get Ready, Bang Bang, Ticket To Ride etc.):

    - My first Fudge LP. - Still very enjoyable
  • I still have a fondness for a lot of organ-based rock.
Stuff like this got lots of play at home too:

    Mew . . . + -

  • Been listening to that big Kamasi Washington album for the past week now
and it's really up there for best of the year for me. It's ambitious and totally
    gets away with it.

I listened to these while I figured out how to post the pictures.
Now, if I can only figure out how to make that draft window longer.

Thanks! They're both terrific by the way.

One of the longer tracks coming up in the rotation this morning

    Your'e Welcome . . . as always - :-)

    Me too:

BTW, I forgot to mention that you need to highlight what you wish to ad links to.

    - I don't think that the draft window can get any longer.
It would be nice, though . . .
  • I used to listen to these Gardner Museum concerts regularly, but had kind of forgotten about them till I noticed a couple in my library.  I was listening when they were in the 10s and 20s - Now there are 212!  http://www.gardnermuseum.org/music/listen/podcasts  Plenty to sample here, to say the least
  • @rostasi - How's that NZ Electronic Comp? Looks rather interesting.

  • Remember this? Can't remember who first posted it but it circulated here for a little while years back - one of those things that would not be in my collection if not for emusers:

The Juan Vasquez tracks - Really excellent ! - Thanks Rostasi.

thom: the reasons to like the NZ comp now are different than
the reasons to like it then and that's what makes revisiting these
pieces a mesmerizing experience. What could've been a return
to crusty comps of irksome noise becomes bits of wonder and
fascination with the time and effort that had to go into these back
then. Nearly all of the composers on the LPs are well-known NZ
composers, but they did put the best ones first it seems. If you
want to explore, for example, Douglas Lilburn, then I'd recommend
    this collection:

That comp is a nice one. Actually, there is only one Vasquez track.
I don't know why everything is listed twice at that link, but it really only has 10 pieces on it.
Here's a 5 minute video of him at, I hope, a conference with one of his pieces.
I say, "I hope," because I couldn't imagine showing such visuals in a concert presentation.
Personally, conference or not, I would've let people listen in the dark.

Is the site especially slow for anybody else today? Seems to be eating a lot of data too. Hope it's not the new normal.
