  • Western Skies Motel - "Generations"

  •
    - "This Heap Is Greater Light is the result of an eight month intensive collaboration between Canadian electro-acoustic composers Mathieu Ruhlmann and Chris Strickland. The result is a methodical crushing of disparate times, materials, and environments into a continuous organic flux. The pieces on this album explore intensity and quietude, noise and tonality. They incorporate field recordings, digital synthesis, classical instruments, and a sundry of everyday occurrences using reel to reel tape machines and VCR decks. This Heap Is Greater Light is a perplexing and highly-detailed work of dream-like music concrete."

Passing away at the age of 91 really shouldn't be sad, but I guess it's natural for us human beings to react in that manner.
Well, of course you're right, 91 is one big long life and I'm happy to be one of those folks that cry at sad movies. When I was young 91 seemed ancient and as I get older it doesn't seem so.
    From http://www.thenational.scot/culture/profile-farewell-to-else-marie-pade-denmarks-grandmother-of-electronic-music.12791
In an apposite conclusion to his piece, Sherburne writes: “Electronic music is often treated as a boys’ club, but the truth is, from the very beginning, women have invented devices, techniques, and tropes that would define the shape of music for years to come; they just went unrecognised for their efforts. [But] you don’t detect any resentment on the composer’s part, just an abiding fascination with the world of sound. In fact, at 89, living in an assisted living community, she was still planning new compositions based on birdsong.”
You just have to love that kind of spirit. My aunt painted everyday until a fall in her 91st year changed the last 7 months of her life. Never had a prescription or a cavity in her life.
    Made me think of her.

Also, made me think of her..

A windy, cold, drizzly morning that fired up the furnace for the first time this summer.
Perfect morning to listen to music.

    Other Minds -emusic

    from http://webstore.otherminds.org/products/carter-scholz-lexicon-plus

Modern Hits (an anagram for Other Minds) is a series of digital-only releases by under-recognized electronic music composers from the Bay Area. The series features unreleased recordings as well as reissues of previously released material. Our hope is that the series will shed a new light on the oft-lauded and vibrant electronic music community of the Bay Area.

The name Carter Scholz will be familiar to those who follow electronic music as well as contemporary Science Fiction writing, as Scholz is an adept practitioner of both. Lexicon Plus centers around a series of pieces made via a Lexicon-brand multi-effect unit fed back into itself and manipulated through computer controlled MIDI. The result is a shockingly dense pulsing wall of noise, each movement a different color.

Fantastic Planet is the soaring, evocative new album from Noveller, the solo instrumental venture of Austin-based composer and filmmaker Sarah Lipstate. The LP is a journey through eclectic sonic terrain, blending rich waves of synth with soaring cinematic guitar lines, guiding the listener through Noveller's most diverse and compelling release to date.

  • Threads Orchestra - "Ranch"

This outfit really needs to put out a new album, even though I'm nowhere close to tiring of their two existing albums.  Among the members are Chris Montague and Kit Downes... familiar names to my site.

... I was about to call it a night... then popped this in... and started an uncontrolable/spastic 'dancing' around my music room (Life Begins at the Hop) (yes, yes it does).

Edit:  I forg9t how absolutely cool and great these cats were.... bliss (Runaways).

OK.... 'forgot' is the wrong word... they got phonetically 'buried' under other stuff I've been listening to...tomorrow morning I'm pulling out a handful of their CDs to provide the soundtrack to my morning/evening  commute for the next cuple weaks.

ETA.... Headphones for the win (You're the Wish I Are I Had).... this is too fun to stop and call it a nitght.... let it roll.......

Two talented composers of ambient-atmospheric soundscapes, Shane Morris & Mystified, have joined forces to create Epoch, the first installment of a trilogy about prehistoric time and evolution. Epoch is a conceptual album of deep, resonant, atmospheric drone soundscapes based around life during the Mesozoic era of Earth’s past; a time long before people, when great reptiles walked the planet, prospered, and ultimately ceased to exist.

In order to evoke a 200 million year old soundworld, Morris & Mystified draw from a completely organic sonic palette. According to Mystified’s Thomas Park, “The release goes back to primitive techniques to capture a contemporary sound. Epoch uses no electronic sources or synthesizers – only acoustic sounds.”
