"The shared affinity between experimental jazz and avant garde classical music is not new. Improvisers such as Anthony Braxton, Cecil Taylor, and Steve Coleman have drawn inspiration from the classical avant-garde for decades, contextualizing ideas developed in notated music within improvised forms. Composers such as Christian Wolff, Bruno Maderna, and John Cage have been among the scores of figures who have explored ways to use notation to facilitate various flavors of improvisation. But something is amiss in experimental corners of jazz and new music that strikes me as the next step of integration of these two trajectories that had previously only run parallel to one another. Travis Reuter’s Rotational Templates is part of this new movement, and is a bracing harbinger of where this direction might take us."
While looking on eMu for the new Matthew Shipp releases on ESP-Disk' (not there yet), I stumbled across this $0.99 bargain (for entire album) from last May:
@Muggsy I was just going to post that one. Interesting to listen to the musicianship on those old records in this context. Of course they are hard-wired into my brain, after hearing them on car radios from birth. With notable exceptions, most of them so square...Pop music for teens produced by middle-aged guys. The sequencing is kind of funny, probably there is a theme that is not readily apparent. There was a time in my life when I never dreamed I'd say this, but now that I am a middle-aged guy, Wayne Newton absolutely slays this song:
Thank you, Bremble, for that Leiber and Stoller tip - I figure the same but what the heck. Any fans of Bert Jansch should check out some box sets that are Living In The Shadows - wink, wink.
Wow, I'm on the 6.99 monthly plan, and while it seemed a no brainer to go with either the Wrecking Crew or Backroom Maestros compilations, there are so many intriguing albums at the great price of 99 cents that I think I'm just going to start scooping up 99 cent albums..
First, that Ernesto Chahoud presents TAITU title is a must buy. Wow! I've been previewing some of the other BBE stuff too. Several other albums are at 99 cents as well.
Third, Beats in Space label also has their stuff at 99 cents each. These sound more like EPs than actual albums though.
Ha, Ha, never realized that the Danke Schoen singer was a man!
I previously posted lots of low cost Indonesian albums. Wanted to reiterate my fondness for Very Best of Lex Trio (20 tracks, 78 minutes, 99 cents). Easy listening, female vocals -- like the Three Degrees from the 1970s...
I love finding a new label (at least to me): World music from Ocora Radio-France. eMsuic has 127 albums, most very reasonably priced at $4.99 for more than an hour of music. There is a wide variety (including gospel from the US). A very good use of a half-price booster.

I don't think I realised Ocora was available on Emusic, so thanks for that @Plong42 Possibly THE best label for serious World Music heads (honourable nod to King Records of Japan). There's actually 130 albums available depending on how you search Ocora. And yes now would be a great time to dive right in with my extra credits except I have at least half the catalogue but not just in one sensible place to check.
I just came here to post that Lemonheads collection! Great minds...
Thanks for pointing out Olde English Spelling Bee- I just got Ducktails and Matrix Metals, kind of classic chillwave, and have HKE on queue for next month. I also highly recommend Dream Castle by Tanning Salon, another alias for Vektroid, and one of my favorites of hers, if you’re into that kind of thing.
While not super great deals, I was surprised to find a bunch of Dinosaur Jr. that I thought was major label on Cherry Red. I got Green Mind, an old favorite, for I think $4.50. I think they have Wahtever’s Cool With Me too, which I love.
Man my save for later is decimated! Is a lot of this not existing stuff really there just with broken links? It looks to be all gone... But I still manage to spend my monthly $6.50 in 30 minuets or less!
@amclark2 Cherry Red have become something of a "grey area" re-issue label in the last few years. Not saying they aren't legit but a maverick catalogue if you will. Certainly a long way from the company that released the Pillows and Prayers comp back in 1982.
Ahmad Jamal "The Classic 1958-62 Recordings" 5CDs for $6.99 and includes six of his best albums: - Complete Live at the Pershing - Ahmad Jamal's Alhambra - At the Blackhawk - Happy Moods - All of You - Complete Live at the Spotlight + extra tracks

More than five hours of Canadian composers. I ran across this one looking for Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan recordings. iTunes has the set at $50. Here is the AllMusic guide for the track listing.
This is may be a genuine mis-priced set since Ovation #1 and #2 $27.49 each.
