Ps - Not only backs and knees give out but then there's memory as well. As these started up on my lastfm it showed that I'd listened to Kreng 48 times but not that track. Indeed, when Zomer came on it showed multiple plays for most of the tracks. Which reminded me that I still haven't fixed that broken hard drive to recover the albums that weren't backed up. At any rate, I don't remember seeing your Kreng thread but a belated thanks for that too.
"For Fred Lerdahl" (2018) is a work that was composed
for the composer-theorist's recent retirement as Fritz Reiner Professor
of Music at Columbia University, during which time he was my principal
teacher. This work not only seeks to pay homage to a composer whose
music I like very much, but also one who provided me encouragement and
unwavering support during a very long period of self doubt while at
Columbia. He almost singlehandedly (along with George Lewis) provided a
platform for me to truly believe in myself, to be honest in my own
output, and to embrace my interests as an artist, rather than to fight
or question them. For these reasons, this composition is dedicated to
him and his influence on many...yours truly included.
This piece
was performed at a portrait concert presented by New England
Conservatory's Contemporary Improvisation Department at Jordan Hall, and
features Martine Thomas (viola), Alexander Garde and Jaewon Lee
(vibraphones), and Ziang Xu (piano).
Work on 'Everywhere, at the end of time' was all consuming
as you can imagine. All work and no play, all work and no play.
In celebration of its completion and only for a limited time*
here is a surprise golden farewell.
Compliments of the house.
Offering you one last chance to raise a charged glass for
those we lost along the way, for all the works, for those ghosts
from our past, for our uncertain future and for The Caretaker.
You are of course welcome to purchase me a drink if you find
this work to be of personal value.
As the old saying goes "I'm the type of guy who likes to know
who's buying their drinks, Lloyd."
