@BT - thanks for the link, interesting. Phil Collins did discuss part of this in the programme about Face Values that I saw, but this, of course, takes it further.
@Doofy - seeing such end of year lists reminds me that even two or three years ago I would have half such a list downloaded from eMusic. A sign of the times that I've not heard any of them, but I will follow a couple up
@Germanprof - Interestingly, we had grown a dozen or so Aeonium arboreum for years and finally got them up to almost 1m tall(we groomed ours to a single stock). We'd put them out in the rock garden every summer and take them in to the basement greenhouse every fall. Until 4 years ago when an early frost pretty much did them in. We managed to save 1 little piece and it's now about 20cm tall. I'll certainly put that in the list. Thanks! Some more Garden inspiration... Loren Connors & Jim O'RourkeLoren Connors & David Grubbs
Flying Fantasy by Alexander Turnquist (on Bandcamp). Purportedly American Primitive, I think it share more with some of the more New Age-y ECM artists.

This is nice, thanks. (The blurb on the bandcamp page is a bit too florid for my palate, though!)

Really fantastic work from Cossi Anatz – a 70s French group who play something they term as "jazz Afro-Occitan" – a wonderful hybrid of modes that's even more compelling than you might think! At some level, the record follows from some of the experiments of Jef Gilson along these lines, and maybe a bit like some of the famous MPS jazz-meets-world recordings – but the style is also more freewheeling and open, done with more of an influence from Free jazz at times – and with rhythms that almost point the way more towards 80s experiments of this nature, particularly some from the Don Cherry side of the spectrum. The group features Michel Marre on trumpet in the lead – clearly the lead creative force, as he also wrote all the songs – and the lineup also features Jean-Marc Padovani on soprano sax and tenor, plus electric and acoustic piano, drums, and two more percussionists. Titles include "Al Coltrane", "Sarhaoui", "Bourree Du Ceor", and "Hortus". © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
