72' - Mose Allison Well, I started off trying to digitize this album but now for some reason, even though there are no significant scratches on it, there is a terrible surface noise that has rendered it unlistenable. It was a reissue of these 2 albums recorded in 1957- Back Country Suite... & Local Color. Lucky for me when I checked Emusic I was able to replace Back Country Suite For Piano, Bass And Drums and add the '62 release I Don't Worry About A Thing. Another one of the voices that really appeal to me. My first album was Mose Allison Sings and over the years I've been fortunate to add to the collection and discover he was much more than just his voice. I'm more than happy to spend some time with him today!
@Confused Mose Allison is the only artist my boss at work can be said to have introduced me to as previously I only knew the track that The Who covered (Young Man's Blues). It's one of those 5 album cd box sets so I need to track down some proper re-issues as I have no clue as to which tracks come from which albums. A fine voice, great player and usually excellent arrangements of tunes which is what makes his work stand out for me.
^^^As I look through my vinyl collection it appears a lot artists fell off my radar in the '80s as I phased out Vinyl for CDs and finally? CDs for MP3s. The easier it got to listen to artists, the more I listened to and the less I remembered to revisit. It really was swell hanging out with Mose...I enjoyed every crackle & pop!!
Every year, there are a handful of albums that, for various reasons, I just wasn't able to include in one of my Bandcamp columns. Some haunt me more than others. This gorgeous recording from Ila Cantor is one. It only made the #39 slot on my BitW Best Of list (that's how deep 2019 was), but it easily makes the top ten list of my favorite albums of 2019. It fills me with the same joy as the John Zorn Dreamers recordings.
^^^ Well, you're welcome greg! GP- my record collecting pal had those albums you mentioned. We used to swap albums back and forth and I know if I was to dig through my boxes of cassettes I'd find some C90's that I copied them onto. But, that's just too much like work. At any rate, I'm not going to start off with some vinyl but new music from my past.
