  • Start wearing purple, wearing purple
Start wearing purple, for me now
All you sanity and wits, they will all vanish
    I promise, it’s just a matter of time…
I know you since you were a twenty and I was twenty,
But thought that some years from now
A purple little little lady will be perfect
For dirty old and useless clown…
I know it all from Diogneis to Foucault
    From Lozgeckkin to Papartu
I ja kljanus obostzav dva paltza
Schto muzika poshla ot Zvukov Mu!...
    Party!
So Fio-Fio-Fioletta! Etta! Va-va-va-vaja dama ti moja!
Eh podayte nam karetu, votetu, I mi poedem k ebenjam!
So yeah, start wearing purple wearing purple wearing purple!
Start wearing purple for me now!
All your sanity and wits, they will all vanish,
I promise, it’s just a matter of time!...

  • This time, you have to face your future
Although it’s just a dusty road
It’s clear that backing down don’t suit you
I’d hate to break your sacred code
    People, along for the ride
    High noon, getting closer

I think you’ll find, everybody loves a loser
So you’ll be fine, you won’t be lonely long
I think you’ll find, everybody loves a loser
So you’ll be fine, you won’t be lonely long

I see, you need a trial of fire
A coward would wisely walk away
Help them, help us bide our time
    Hideouts get discovered

I think you’ll find, everybody loves a loser
So you’ll be fine, you won’t be lonely long
I think you’ll find, everybody loves a loser
So you’ll be fine, you won’t be lonely long

  • Beatles of course

You never give me your money
You only give me your funny paper
and in the middle of negotiations
    you break down

I never give you my number
I only give you my situation
and in the middle of investigation
    I break down

    Out of college, money spent
See no future, pay no rent
All the money's gone, nowhere to go
    Any jobber got the sack
    Monday morning, turning back
Yellow lorry slow, nowhere to go
But oh, that magic feeling, nowhere to go
    Oh, that magic feeling
    Nowhere to go

    One sweet dream
Pick up the bags and get in the limousine
Soon we'll be away from here
Step on the gas and wipe that tear away
One sweet dream came true today
    Came true today
Came true today (yes it did)

One two three four five six seven,
All good children go to Heave
  • Katrina, do you know the The Beatles Complete On Ukulele version ?
  • NO, but I will follow your link now

    Pushing thru the market square
    so many mothers sighing
    News had just come over,
we had five years left to cry in

News guy wept and told us
    earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet
then I knew he was not lying

I heard telephones, opera house, favourite melodies
I saw boys, toys electric irons and T.V.'s
My brain hurt like a warehouse
it had no room to spare
I had to cram so many things
    to store everything in there
And all the fat-skinny people, and all the tall-short people
And all the nobody people, and all the somebody people
I never thought I'd need so many people

A girl my age went off her head
    hit some tiny children
If the black hadn't a-pulled her off, I think she would have killed them

A soldier with a broken arm, fixed his stare to the wheel of a Cadillac
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest
and a queer threw up at the sight of that
I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlour
drinking milk shakes cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine
don't think you knew you were in this song

And it was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor
And I thought of Ma and I wanted to get back there
Your face, your race, the way that you talk
I kiss you, you're beautiful, I want you to walk

We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
We've got five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
We've got five years, that's all we've got
    ~Bowie

    Ladies and Gentlemen,
The golden age of rock and roll....

    Everybody hazy, shell-shocked and crazy.
Screaming for the face at the window.
Jeans for the genies, dresses for the dreamies,
Fighting for a place in the front row.

    Ohhh, Ohhh, Ohhh
(It's good for your body, it's good for your soul)
    Ohhh, Ohhh, let's go!
(It's the golden age of rock and roll).

Well you getta little buzz, send for the fuzz,
    Guitars getting higher and higher.
The dude in the paint thinks he's gonna faint,
Stoke more coke on the fire.

    Ohhh, Ohhh, Ohhh
(You gotta stay young, you can never grow old)
    Ohhh, Ohhh, Whoooa
(It's the golden age of rock and roll).

The golden age of rock and roll will never die,
As long as children feel the need to laugh and cry.
Don't wanna smash - want a smash sensation,
    Don't wanna wreck; just recreation,
Don't wanna fight - but if you turn us down
We're gonna turn you around gonna mess with the sound.

The show's gotta move, everybody groove
There ain't no trouble on the streets now.
So if the going gets rough,
    Don't you blame us
    You ninety-six decible freaks

    Ohhh, Ohhh, Ohhh
(Its good for body, it's good for your soul)
    Ohhh, Ohhh, Whoooa
(It's the golden age of rock and roll).
    Ohhh, Ohhh, Ohhh
(You gotta stay young, you can never grow old)
    Ohhh, Ohhh, Whoooa
(Its good for body, it's good for your soul)
    Ohhh, Ohhh, Whoooa
(It's the golden age of rock and roll).
    Ohhh, Ohhh, Ohhh
(You gotta stay young, you can never grow old)
    Ohhh, Ohhh, Whoooa
(Its good for body, it's good for your soul)
    Ohhh, Ohhh, Whoooa
(It's the golden age of rock and roll).
    That's all

  • I jumped the first train I saw, it’ll surely take me home
If I had a mama, at least I’d have a place to go
I’m just a guttersnipe, I got no place to wipe my nose
I jumped the first train I saw, it’ll surely take me home

    A buzzard riding the rails
I steal my meals when all else fails
I’m right at home on the line
I’m well on my way to feeling fine

I’ve been to Juarez, I been to Houston, Baton Rouge
I got some good friends, some folks to really help me through
I’ve been all over, I spend my time just like I do
I stay out of trouble, but its got a way of finding you

    A buzzard riding the rails
I steal my meals when all else fails
I’m right at home on the line
I’m well on my way to feeling fine

    I’m a railroad urchin
    Searching for peace of mind
I’m in need of some churchin’
And out here all I have is time

I can’t get my money right, I can’t even put my two cents in
I pray the lawmen, I hope they wont catch me again
I’m just a vagabond, I live to see the light of dawn
The train beats a rhythm, and I love to sing along

    A buzzard riding the rails
I steal my meals when all else fails
    I never heeded the signs
But I’m well on my way to feeling fine

God money i'll do anything for you.
God money just tell me what you want me to.
God money nail me up against the wall.
God money don't want everything he wants it all.

    [Bridge:]
    no you can't take it
    no you can't take it
no you can't take that away from me
    no you can't take it
    no you can't take it
no you can't take that away from me

    head like a hole.
    black as your soul.
i'd rather die than give you control.
    head like a hole.
    black as your soul.
i'd rather die than give you control.

    [Chorus:]
bow down before the one you serve.
you're going to get what you deserve.
bow down before the one you serve.
you're going to get what you deserve.

God money's not looking for the cure.
God money's not concerned about the sick amongst the pure.
God money let's go dancing on the backs of the bruised.
God money's not one to choose

    [Bridge]

    [Chorus]

    [Chorus]

    [Bridge]

    [Chorus]

    you know who you are.
Nine Inch Nails ~ Head Like A Hole

No idea what this song means to anyone else, but for me, it was when I left home and was on my own that I learned money was important than I'd previously considered or accepted.
And what kind of work I was going to do in order to get money but still love my life.
  • I'm fortunate to get paid to do what I'd do anyway, except that instead of writing bespoke business software, I'd be making a phone game where kittens are falling from the top of the screen, and you have to save them by moving your basket under them, and the ones you miss splat and turn red and their eyes turn to X's and they pile up and get in the way of your basket so it's harder to move around to catch the kittens, and more kittens splat and pile up until - GAME OVER. Oh - You can pack the kittens down somewhat by swiping from top to bottom, but the kittens continue to fall while you're compacting the dead ones.
  • You know, the landlord rang my front door bell.
I let it ring for a long, long spell.
I went to the window - and peeped through the blind,
And asked him to tell me what was on his mind - He said,

Money, honey - Yes, Money, honey.
Money, honey, if you want to stay here with me.

I was cleaned as a screen, and so hard-pressed.
I called the woman that I love the best.
I finally got my baby about a half past three,
She said I'd like to know what you want with me - I said,

    Money, honey - Money, honey.
Money, honey - If you want to get along with me.

She screamed and said, what's wrong with you?
From this day on our romance is through.
I said tell me, baby, face to face-
How could another man take my place? - She said

    Money, honey - Money, honey.
Money, honey - If you want to get along with me.

Now I've learned my lesson and now I know
The sun may shine and the winds may blow.
The women may come and the women may go,
But before I say I love 'em so - I want

    Money, honey - Money, honey.
Money, honey - If you want to get along with me.

(If you want to get along)
    Oh, I need some money
(If you want to get along)
Well I ain't jivin' you honey
(If you want to get along)
You gotta give up some money
If you want to get along with me

    Buckets of rain
    Buckets of tears
Got all them buckets coming out of my ears
Buckets of moonbeams in my hand
You got all the love honey baby
    I can stand.

    I been meek
    And hard like and oak
I seen pretty people disappear like smoke
Friends will arrive friends will disappear
If you want me honey baby
    I'll be there.

    I like your smile
    And your fingertips
I like the way that you move your lips
I like the cool way you look at me
Everything about you is bringing me
    Misery.

    Little red wagon
    Little red bike
I ain't no monkey but I know what I like
I like the way you love me strong and slow
I'm taking you with me honey baby
    When I go.

    Life is sad
    Life is a bust
All ya can do is do what you must
You do what you must do and ya do it well
I'll do it for you honey baby
    Can't you tell ?

    I got a head with wings (x3)
And I can see so far away I can see so clear
You would not believe the view up here

I got a head with wings
    A head with wings

Now I'm floating around up here way above the clouds
    So high about the ground
And the only thing that holds my head to the ground
Is this one little skinny string

I got a head with wings
    A head with wings
I got a head with yea oh
    A head with wings
    I got a head with wings (x3)
And I can see so far away yea so far away
I can see the shadows fall across your face
I got a head with wings
    A head with wings
I got a head with yea yea
    A head with wings (x2)
    Yea

it was throwing little pebbles at the back of my head
I was building a city for one
sawing legs off my childhood bed

I was thinking I should be more concrete
like the offices of d-list whores
don't waste time with the panty-waist types
and the losers of the wars

my ears were ringing from your victory screech
they were echoing your deafening credo
like a terrorist's victim in Europe
I staggered out in a horrible speedo

someone was blamed for all the hot sandals
and the ones that filled up with sand
you should be sued for that horrible cell phone
you should have to lose a foot or a hand

  • Dear landlord
Please don’t put a price on my soul
    My burden is heavy
    My dreams are beyond control
    When that steamboat whistle blows
I’m gonna give you all I got to give
And I do hope you receive it well
Dependin’ on the way you feel that you live

    Dear landlord
Please heed these words that I speak
    I know you’ve suffered much
But in this you are not so unique
All of us, at times, we might work too hard
To have it too fast and too much
And anyone can fill his life up
With things he can see but he just cannot touch

    Dear landlord
    Please don’t dismiss my case
    I’m not about to argue
I’m not about to move to no other place
Now, each of us has his own special gift
And you know this was meant to be true
And if you don’t underestimate me
    I won’t underestimate you

    Bob Dylan "Dear Landlord"
  • Well you sure didn't look like you were having any fun
with that heavy-metal gaze they'll have to measure in tons
and when you look up at the sky
    all you see are zeros
all you see are zeros and ones
you took my hand and led me down to watch the kewpie doll parade
we let the kittens lick our hair and drank our chalky lemonade
it's not that I just didn't care I must admit I was afraid
and I'm awfully glad my finger's resting gently on the masterfade
    the masterfade
    I coulda played along
    the masterfade
    I coulda played Mah Jongg
but it just takes too long
    and I just can't remember
which way the east wind blows does it matter?
    if we're all matter
what's it matter does it matter
if we're all matter when we're done?
when the sky is full of zeros and ones
I saw you standing all alone in the electrostatic rain
I thought at last I'd found a situation you can't explain
with GPS you know it's all just a matter of degrees
your happiness won't find you underneath that canopy of trees
if the green grass is 6 the soybeans are 7
the junebugs are 8 the weeds and thistles are 11
and if the 1s just hold their place the 0s make a smiley face
when they come floating down from the heavens
you took my hand and led me down to watch a papillon parade
we let the kittens lick our hair and drank our chalky lemonade
you squeezed my hand and told me softly that I shouldn't be afraid
'cause all the while your finger's resting gently on the masterfade
    the masterfade
    I coulda played along
    the masterfade
    I coulda played Mah Jongg
but it just takes too long
and who the hell can remember
which way the east wind blows
when you're lying on the ground
staring up at an inverted compass
    I mean Christ who knows?

I don't normally favor spoken word tracks, but - man, oh man, it's hard to forget this one after hearing it.

    FACES

    Have I said it before?
I am learning to see, yes, I am beginning.
It is still going badly, but I intend to make the most of my time.
For example, it never occurred to me before how many faces there are.
There are multitudes of people, but there are many more faces
Because each person has several of them.

There are people who wear the same face for years.
Naturally, it wears out, gets dirty, splits at the seams,
Stretches like gloves worn during a long journey.
    They are thrifty, uncomplicated people.
They never change it – never even have it cleaned.
    It’s good enough, they say,
And who can convince them of the contrary.
Of course, since they have several faces,
You might wonder what they do with the other ones.
They keep them in storage. Their children will wear them.
But sometimes it also happens that their dogs go out wearing them,
And why not? A face is a face.

Other people change faces incredibly fast,
Put on one after another and wear them out.
At first they think they have an unlimited supply,
But when they are barely 40 years old, they come to their last one.
There is, to be sure, something tragic about this.
They are not accustomed to taking care of faces.
Their last one is worn through in a week, has holes in it,
Is in many places as thin as paper,
    And then, little by little,
The lining shows through the non-face
And they walk around with that on.

    But the woman,
    The woman...
She had completely fallen into herself,
Forward into her hands, it was in the corner of ___ (something French that I can’t make out)
I began to walk quietly as soon as I saw her.
When poor people are thinking, they shouldn’t be disturbed.
Perhaps their ideal will still occur to them.

    The street was too empty.
    Its emptiness had gotten bored
And pulled my steps out from under my feet
As if they were wooden clogs.
    The woman sat up, frightened.
She pulled out of herself too quickly,
    Too violently,
So that her face was left in her two hands.
I could see it lying there,
    Its hollow form.
It cost me an indescribable effort
To stay with those two hands,
Not to look at what had been torn out of them.
I shuddered to see a face from the inside.

But I was much more afraid
    Of that bare, flayed head,
    Waiting there, faceless.

    - Jackie Leven (from the album, Shining Brother Shining Sister)

My son always liked Weird Al ; )
This odd, lovely song makes me think of my son. I am now an empty nester. It has echoes of Led Zeppelin.

    In Spite of Me

Last night I told a stranger all about you
    They smiled patiently with disbelief
I always knew you would succeed no matter what you tried
And I know you did it all in spite of me

I'm proud to have known you for the short time that I did
Proud to have been a step up on your way
Proud to be part of your illustrious career
And I know you did it all in spite of me
    In spite of me

Late last night I saw you in my living room
You seemed so close but yet so cold
For a long time I thought that you'd be coming back to me
Those kind of thoughts can be so cruel
    So cruel

And I know you did it all in spite of me
    In spite of me

I have probably posted this before, but it is such a lovely song:

Women of the world take over
'Cause if you don't the world will come to an end
    And it won't take long

Jim O'Rourke - Women Of The World
  • I want to know you
    I want to show you
    I want to grow you
    Inside of me
    I want to see you
    I want to free you
    I want to be you
    Inside of me
Love me 50,000 miles beneath my brain
Love me 50,000 times and then again

Can you love me with a thousand eyes?
Can you see right through my bones?
Can you kiss me with a thousand lips?
Can you melt a solid stone?
Can you hear me from a thousand miles
When you're screaming at the stars?
Can you pull me up to Jupiter
When I'm all hung up on Mars?
Burn my eyes with your flame
    Let your world spin free
    Let it go, baby
    I'll do the same
    All depends on me
    Let it go
    It's all the same
What with jewels that you can't see
Love me, love me, love me, love me, love me, babe
Bring it on home to me...
    ~10 Years After

  • In my life
Oh, why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die ?

Last night, "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" playing in the background, my ear caught the above lyrics, which I quoted to my wife. She expressed some concern, and asked if there was something we needed to talk about! It reminded me of the time in eighth grade when I wrote "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" on an algebra paper...Mr Brodie took me aside at the end of class and asked me if everything was all right at home.

    I see trees of green,
    red roses too.
    I see them bloom,
    for me and you.
    And I think to myself,
    what a wonderful world.

    I see skies of blue,
    And clouds of white.
    The bright blessed day,
    The dark sacred night.
    And I think to myself,
    What a wonderful world.

    The colors of the rainbow,
    So pretty in the sky.
    Are also on the faces,
    Of people going by,
    I see friends shaking hands.
    Saying, "How do you do?"
    They're really saying,
    "I love you".

    I hear babies cry,
    I watch them grow,
    They'll learn much more,
    Than I'll ever know.
    And I think to myself,
    What a wonderful world.

    Yes, I think to myself,
    What a wonderful world.

    Oh yeah !

  • As revealed in the * thread, I have absolutely no credentials as a music snob.

    [Chorus - Rihanna]
    I'm friends with the monster
    That's under my bed
Get along with the voices inside of my head
    You're trying to save me
    Stop holding your breath
    And you think I'm crazy
Yeah, you think I'm crazy (crazy)

    [Eminem - Verse 1]
I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek
Oh well, guess beggers can't be choosey
Wanted to receive attention for my music
Wanted to be left alone in public excuse me
Been wanting my cake, And eat it too
    And wanting it both ways
Fame made me a balloon cause my ego inflated
When I blew seep and it was confusing
Cause all I wanted to do is be the Bruce Lee of loose leaf
Abused ink, used it as a tool when I blew steam
    Hit the lottery (oh wee)
With what I gave up to get was bittersweet
It was like winning a huge meet
Ironic 'cause I think I'm getting so huge I need a shrink
I'm beginning to lose sleep: one sheep, two sheep
Going cuckoo and cookey as Kool Keith
But I'm actually weirder than you think
    Cause I'm...

    [Chorus]
    I'm friends with the monster
    That's under my bed
Get along with the voices inside of my head
    You're trying to save me
    Stop holding your breath
    And you think I'm crazy
    Yeah, you think I'm crazy

    Well, that's nothing
    oh oh oh oh
    Well, that's nothing
    oh oh oh oh

    [Eminem - Verse 2]
    Now I ain't much of a poet
But I know somebody once told me to seize the moment
    And don't squander it
Cause you never know when it could all be over
    Tomorrow so I keep conjuring
Sometimes I wonder where these thoughts spawn from
(Yeah, ponder it, do you want this? there's no wonder you're losing your mind the way you're wandering?)
I think you've been wandering off down yonder and stumbled onto Jeff VanVonderen
Cause I needed an interventionist to intervene between me and this monster
And save me from myself and all this conflict
Cause the very thing that I love is killing me and I can't conquer it
My OCD is conking me in the head
Keep knocking, nobody's home, I'm sleepwalking
I'm just relaying what the voice in my head saying
Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just friends with the...

    [Chorus]
    I'm friends with the monster
    That's under my bed
Get along with the voices inside of my head
    You're trying to save me
    Stop holding your breath
    And you think I'm crazy
    Yeah, you think I'm crazy

    Well, that's nothing
    oh oh oh oh
    Well, that's nothing
    oh oh oh oh

    [Eminem - Verse 3]
Call me crazy, but I had this vision
One day that, I'd walk amongst you a regular civilian
    But, until then,
drums get killed and I'm Coming straight at
Emcees, blood get spilled and I
Take it back to the days that, I get on a Dre track
Give every kid who got played at
    Pumped the feeling
    and shit to say back
To the kids who played 'em
I ain't here to save the fucking children
But if one kid out of a hundred million
Who are going through a struggle feels and it relates that's great
It's payback, Russell Wilson falling way back
In the draft, turn nothing into something still, can make that
Straw in the gold chump I will spend
    Rumpelstiltskin in a hay stack
Maybe I need a straightjacket, face facts
I am nuts for real, but I'm okay with that
It's nothing, I'm still friends with the...

Huey 'Piano' Smith - Don't You Just Know It
  • Dear Mr. Fantasy play us a tune
Something to make us all happy
Do anything, take us out of this gloom
Sing a song, play guitar, make it snappy

You are the one who can make us all laugh
But doing that you break out in tears
Please don't be sad if it was a straight mind you had
We wouldn't have known you all these years

Dear Mr. Fantasy play us a tune
Something to make us all happy
Do anything, take us out of this gloom
Sing a song, play guitar, make it snappy
    Yeah, yeah, yeah

Dear Mr.

Great song by Traffic - I'll listen to it later when I load my iPod.

Just listened to the Huey Piano Smith And The Clowns singing their "Gooba, gooba, gooba, gooba" on Guvera. Wherever did you find that one, mutex?

Huey Piano Smith certainly has a distinctive voice. I think I found the correct one in the midst of "in the style of" and the karaoke versions.
Kinda reminds me of the movie, Animal House.
That artist also had a version of Rockin Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu.

I'm glad I can still get to Guvera. My inconsiderate son has done something hackerish that's blocking me from Hulu, and since I'm trying to avoid arguments with him at the moment, I can wait a while longer. He's kinda not like a son anymore, my hubby & I had a joke years ago about a roomie we called "the thing that never leaves", and that would now be my son. Yikes. But it will get better, I know it will.

    Meanwhile, keep those lyrics coming!
