7digital Advent Calendar

edited December 2009 in General
7digital is offering a new $2 album a day until Christmas via it's Advent calendar.

The albums are 320kbps, and they are promising some of the biggest sellers of the last couple of years.

Dec 1 - Taylor Swift - Fearless
Dec 2 - TV on the Radio - Dear Science

Taylor Swift really isn't my cup of tea, but she's better than most pop with a twang, and the TV on the Radio Album is a must have. Looking forward to what else pops up.

  • A must have? For $2, I took the plunge. Track 4 is downloading now.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Amazon mp3 is offering a "free holiday song" every day through the 25th.

Today it's Owl City's Ocean Eyes! Recommended by street crews the world over!
  • For $2 I just may have to check this out to see what all the HullabaLOU is about. (Just announced a couple of days ago.)
  • I'll have to say that wimpy singing with Auto-tune is not my cup of tea either.
  • TWO FUCKING DOLLARS!!!

    BASTARDS!

They're charging 4 pounds in the UK advent calendar!

Which is cheap for over here, but still...

    TWO FUCKING DOLLARS!!!
  • sounds like they got the exchange rate backwards. someone i know did that once when she was in the UK. she kept buying all this stuff thinking the prices were so low...
  • Exchange rate, ha! The cost of shopping is always prohibitively higher in Britain than elsewhere in Europe (so the social insurance system is no excuse). And if you switched the £ for $, the prices would still be too expensive.
  • Grace Under Pressure? Umm...didn't see that one coming.
  • I'd complain about nothing of interest but that has more to do with already owning Dear Science. Owl City almost sounds good to me from the 30 second samples - but I think a full minute of that would be too syrupy sweet with a side order of vacuousness.

P.S. Did anyone else get to take advantage of their $4 album sale?
  • Yes, thanks to anose's head's up at eMu I got the James Brown box set about half an hour before the sale was set to expire as it turned out - there was so much more, but them's the breaks. I didn't know about them before. The thing was being as their Download Manager is PC only the Star Time zipfile was going to take almost an hour to load and it was late so I decided to come back the next day - oops, sale over. I didn't grab Them Crooked Vultures that one day it was $4 too , but you know after 4 days Taylor swift is starting to look good at $2.
  • Already had Taylor Swift, bought Dear Science, skipped Owl City, bought Diana Krall's Christmas Songs for $2.99 today and skipped Rush.
  • Today's Florence & the Machines sounds pretty good, something to sample if you like, say, Heartless Bastards and St. Vincent.
  • Sweet. I've been wanting that Florence & the Machines album. I'll have to grab it this afternoon.

  • The cover for Lungs grabbed my attention when it was released. I remember liking the previews, too.
  • I've heard "Kiss with a Fist" several times, it is a great song. Just downloaded the album.

  • Thought it was time to bump this. The last three albums have been Eminem, The Killers, and 50 Cent.

    Craig
  • I have said "Nay" to all three. Might have tried The Killers, but reviews I read indicated this wouldn't be my cup of tea, either. Buying every one costs $50, and I decided to be more discerning. Especially given that my Christmas gift to me is to be cable (internet and TV) and an HDTV. Better things for wasting my dough. :)
  • Yeah, I've only snagged Florence + the Machine so far (very worth it by the way).

I briefly considered The Killers as I liked their first album, but the stuff since then just hasn't done it for me.

  • Heads up! Many thanks to anose for pointing out on the other MB that 7digital is having a $4 Holiday Sale. Check the left hand column on their page - and this includes the James Brown Star Time Box Set for $4 - a steal, steal, steal.
  • Here's one for you jazz fans - The Duke Box (Storyville), which contains 8CDs worth of live transcripts, is on sale for $7.77 - about 1/9 the price that it is on Amazon.
  • I should add that they also have most of the Stone's catalog for $4
  • There are lots more $4 albums, if you nose around. And the Duke Box is a STEAL at $7.77. I bought it with booster crack back when. Heh.

Whew, there's a lot on sale here - got the 40th Anniversary Get Yer Ya-Yas Out which I had seen mixed reviews of but at $4, a couple of early Stones, a Gary Moore - many of his on sale , Lucinda Williams. Notables - Kelly Willis early albums - get either the 2 albums, or the anthology with cuts from both, a lot of B.B.King albums, a lot of Hendrix albums and if you don't have the BBC Sessions album get it - it's the deluxe edition - just trust me on this one. There's no comprehensive listing I don't think but just browse from one artist to the next.
  • Live at the BBC - Hendrix? Found several Live at the BBC, but no Hendrix.
  • Thanks for the info on the Duke box. Searching for 'box' I found the following which may or may not be of interest to anyone.
    Pete Seeger @ $7.77
    Jackie Mitto @ $6.99
    MF Doom @ $7.77
    Various Aritst (Bollywood) @ $7.77

  • Sorry, mommio, my bad, it's called The BBC Sessions on the Jimi Hendrix Experience page. Outstanding album.
  • ... searching for 'complete' yields another 800+ albums, tons of it classical which I have no idea about the relative 'value' that might be had. But I did find this:

    Bob Marley @ $7.77
  • They have pages for the $4 albums now, but they are not comprehensive. It seems like many of the artists that have an album on the lists actually have most of their albums on the list. The James Brown boxset is back to $4, too.
  • Dang! The BBC Sessions (Hendrix) is $14.99 this morning. My frugal self says NO!

There's one by an artist called Nirvana with a well endowed drowning baby chasing after money. Anyone heard this album, and if so, is it worth checking out?
