  • Looks like they have another one about uteruses with a skinned woman with wings...hmmmmm

If I'm only getting one, which should I get? Baby Shlong or Ed Gein Faerie Girl?
  • Oops, guess someone figured out the Hendrix BBC Sessions was a double disc release.

And frogkopf, I'd save my money - that band is so over.
  • I'd go with Ed Gein Faerie Girl, because you never know if someone might say Baby Shlong is child pornography.

I seem to recall hearing of that band, though. Something about the drummer playing with John Paul Jones, or something.

Craig, BTW, I got that last night at 7digital for $4 also - the opportunity had eluded me when the previous sale expired. Have not listened at all - I'm taking it purely on faith in one of my favorite bass players in the world. I mean the Them Crooked Vultures album for any readers for whom this is too esoteric.
  • Sidenote: not everything is 320kbps, but they do at least tell you what you're getting.

John Bonham played on Baby Shlong? Are you sure?

I thought he and Jimmy Hendricks had a murder suicide pack back in 1963 (something about life not being worth living without Nigel Kennedy, who was killed with a bazooka that year). I'm pretty sure that baby isn't in his late 40s, unless he's really small for his age (and looking at the pic, I'd say he is "big" for his age). Could you be thinking of Keith Moon of the Beatles instead?
  • Keith Moon didn't drum for the Beatles, that was Neil Pert. Keith Moon is the drummer for Def Leopard. It is possible it was Pert on Baby Shlong, though.

BigD - I've heard pretty good things about TCV, especially for a "supergroup." Sounds like a lot of it is just Grohl and Homme living out out their Led Zeppelin fantasy, and there is nothing wrong with that!

Various and sundry $4 finds - nearly all Joe Bonamassa albums, a lot of blues albums - Howling Wolf's Folk Blues and several others, jazz guitarists - some Wes Montgomery albums, Joe Pass albums including Virtuoso #1, 2, and 3. Just migrating from one artist page to another. Jeff Beck's live at Ronnie Scott's - one of my albums of the year come to think of it.
  • I'll vouch for TCV. I saw them live in October and it was a blast. Grohl's drumming in particular made a big impression on me, he was amazing. JPJ is also one of my favorite bass players in the world, and I probably would have bought the ticket to see him no matter who he was playing with, but TCV put the power in power trio. There was a second guitarist, but nobody ever talks about power quartets.
  • Beck. All of 'em.
  • The $4 releases seem to almost all be Universal labels, at least in Europe where 7Digital is based, I think.
  • I've been noticing the same thing.
  • A lot of good Sonic Youth albums (on Geffen = Universal)
  • If you don't already own Feist's Let It Die I highly recommend picking it up for 2 bucks. The Reminder is even better but this one is excellent, too. "Mushaboom" is such an awesome track plus she does a killer Bee-Gees' cover.

I wholeheartedly endorse this comment. While The Reminder is far superior, Let it Die is still a great album.

I've never heard of Angie Stone, the $2 album today. Anyone know anything about her?

    Craig
  • Angie Stone is neo-Soul. She's never been around for a while. She's not bad, but nothing that will change your life.

If you want something rawer, Mitty Collier might be worth picking up for $4 - 26 songs of classic, raw, heart on your sleeve Soul music.
  • Have to concur with froggie. Picked up a different Angie Stone album when it was cheap on Amazon. Afterward I regretted the decision as it came across as rather generic soul on repeat listens. Will check out that Mitty instead...

And did anyone notice that Rush was replaced with Rihanna? I always get them mixed up, too.

Per posts on eMu, the Rush was faulty, and after complaints, it was replaced. Those who had bought the Rush either received refunds, or were allowed to download the complete, corrected Rush at no additional cost. I don't think I would listen to either one enough to warrant the purchase.

The Rush was removed before I checked in that day, so Rihanna was the choice for me. If not for the other place, I would never have known the difference.
  • Thanks for the info on Angie Stone. I've never really been able to get into neo-Soul. There just feels like something is missing to me.

I've also not heard of today's addition: Wisin and Yandel.

    Craig
  • Looked them up -- not their real names. Puerto Rican duo, reggae. Not buying.
  • I think it would have been much funnier if everyone who bought the faulty Rush download were given the Rihanna one instead...

I remember the Wisin and Yandel being a deal on Amazon, too. Latin hip-hop or something like that.

Various observations from browsing for $4 sale albums:
Verve Records - the Jazz Masters series seem to be all available, as well as many Best of the Verve Years type albums; probably individual albums but can't vouch.
Elvis Costello - Secret, Profane and Sugarcane. That was sitting on my SFL elsewhere because it was 13 credits, but le voila!
Speaking of the French, some here had talked about Carla Bruni - the 2 French language releases are both there for $4, which were spoken of as being better than the English release.
    Bon chance, and good hunting.

And today's $2 Advent entry is Nirvana - In Utero (Explicit Version) - hide the children.
  • Ed Gein Faerie Girl by Nirvana is the pick for today.

Seriously, it would get my vote for best Rock album of the 90s.
  • It's tough to argue that vote. While it might not be #1 for me, I don't know that I could come with an argument that it wasn't. Other than nuh-uh, of course.

    Craig
  • I always solve that issue by naming In Utero the best rock album of the 90s, and Nevermind the best pop album of the 90s.
  • Does that make OK Computer the best electronic album of the '90s?

    Craig
  • Holy hell.

    Craig
  • Wow! Some great stuff out there. Damn! When am I going to catch up on listening to all of this?
