"I have been the model of restraint, and only grabbed the four CD Jimi Hendrix set and a Astrud Gilberto album."
Admirable restraint, and I missed that opportunity to render my jazz guitarist parade in holiday fashion.
At $2 a pop I heartily recommend that 4 CD Hendrix combo (it's what comes in the purple fuzzy box set) for anyone with any more than a casual interest in Jimi - the alternate takes etc. don't make it the ideal introduction to Hendrix but it's got some must have live cuts mixed in that were on the long out of print Hendrix In The West and Rainbow Bridge albums - at $8 for the whole thing it's a steal. Tom Waits, eh?
$2 - Bayou Blues - my single favorite Clifton Chenier album.
Five Buckwheat Zydeco albums - favorite :Taking It Home.
Seven Neville Brothers albums.
Ten John Hiatt albums.
I did stock my AmieStreet account with a 50% sale. and I did buy two booster cracks this morning at eMu. So no so much as restraint as whoring myself around to all the music sites this week.
Still found $2 prices on pages and added to cart and checked out pronto. The Christmas set above said $2 but went into the cart at $27.99, so removed it. Make hay while the sun shines, children.
During the first $4 sale I made my purchase several hours after the sale had ended. A number of albums that I had looked at stayed at $4 for awhile (possibly due to cookies) and anything that was in my cart kept that price, too. I'm kind of banking on that working again. :P
What an oddly random time for the sale to end. (it's ended for me - I'm still seeing lots of $4, but any $2 tags disappear when I click on them). Oh well, I was having a hard time convincing myself I needed anything else anyway.
Here's what I got:
Esbjorn Svensson Trio - Leukocyte - $4 (Thanks Jonah for pointing out this group - I haven't listened in full yet but what I've heard is amazing)
Woody Guthrie - Asch Recordings - $7.77
Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst - $2 (there're two versions of this - I really hope I didn't end up with a clean version)
GZA - Liquid Swords $2 (this was hard to find - it turned out to be under Genius/GZA rather than GZA/Genius)
Scott Walker - Tilt - $2
Mingus - Black Saint & the Sinner Lady - $2
Alice Coltrane - Journey in Satchidananda -$2
So not a ton of stuff but stuff I'm really excited about. Plus two Robert Wyatt albums from Amie bought totally with rec. money. So I've got a bit of listening to do.
And hey, remember back in the olden times of earlier this year when we could get 10 albums for $20 every month... ah the good old days.
D@mn! I bought only two things, thinking I would shop more thoroughly tonight. Good news: the multi-disc sets on Smithsonian Folkways are still $7.77--this must be the regular price.
I just didn't have time to shop, given the lack of easy searching for $2 albums. Stuff like this makes me regret that - woulda snapped that up! I'm sure there was lots of I would've grabbed if I'd found the time. Oh well!
but it was exciting while it lasted. Now back to the more mundane $5 offerings from Amie and Amazon. I do agree that some of those 7digital $6.99 and $7.99 offerings are worthy of investigation - some are not readily available for less elsewhere, especially the ones with a lot of tracks.
It looks like the advent calendar itself has been reset: only one album is visible, and it's one that was already on sale (Innervision). Did the labels complain?
I think it's just a website problem. Innervisions is actually today's deal, I believe, but it was showing up on the wrong day. Now it's on the right day but everything else is gone. However, if you check those albums directly they are still $2.
Looks like they've gone to a one Advent box at a time model - today - U2 Unforgettable Fire. Maybe they just took more of a soaking during the $2 feeding frenzy than they figured to.
I had assumed that was the plan from the beginning and was surprised when they all stayed available. For now, at least, the previous couple are still available (Innervisions and the Stereophonics' Greatest Hits).
I'm really irked at 7digital. I lost $20 worth of albums due to server problems on their side during the sale (i.e., I was charged but only one out of the 10 albums ever showed up on my download page plus I got an error page for another album I bought the same day). I've emailed them once a day to look into this and have received nary a peep - not even their promised auto-reply message confirming they received the email.
I really don't like the site that much either; I can't see them breaking into the market unless they have frequent sales. I can't much see why anyone would go anywhere other than Amazon or the already established itunes for full price stuff. The sale was fun though.

The most fun since the Happy-Happy-Joy-Joy song.

Miss you boo.
Honestly, I'm not that impressed with the service aside from the sale. But I'll check back in on it from time-to-time.
I'm not at all impressed with the navigation of the 7digital site, but will add it to the list of places to occasionally check for good deals.
