If I can, I'd love to recommend a BBC show that is on Netflix steaming, called Black Books, Dylan Moran plays a misanthropic used book store owner with a new age hippie assistant and a neighboring store owner that has a crush on Moran's character. It's a small cast, but they manage to create many hilarious episodes.
yeah, me too. Maybe even some other clients! I don't know how long it will last in terms of seasons, but he does have quite an operation that must have taken some time to build.
It was fear speaking more than any type of qualitative analysis of anybody's posts. Quite frankly, one of you could've posted, "Breaking Bad is great to watch when doing laundry," but until I see the final episodes, the moment I see the phrase Breaking Bad, I freak.
jonah - Whatever you do, you MUST watch to the end of Breaking Bad. The episode last night was so....I don't even know what the word is. 'Amazing' doesn't do it, because it was also horrifying. 'Horrifying' doesn't do it because it was also amazing.
Amazifying? Horrifyzing? Amazihorrifying?
Whatever the word, I still have a knot in chest more than 13 hours later.
Orphan Black - on BBC-A. Got lost in the shuffle first run but we've been watching it during the second run and very strange but we are liking it. Presume a second season will follow. Being a BBC show it will doubtlessly turn up on Netflix and Amazon at some point.
OMG, Walking Dead completely crossed the line tonight. It's supposed to be horror, but first Ben, and then Babe - what happened to good , clean zombie fun.
@BDB, no we didn't see the Broadchurch ending coming either!
We have now watched the first three episodes of Downton Abbey (5 broadcast so far, but we are behind because of our holiday) I promise it will be interesting, even tackling social themes, with a new twist on class differences. We have also watched the first episode of The Tunnel, the basic scenario being that a body is found precisely half way between England and France in the Channel Tunnel. If you have seen the Danish/Swedish The Bridge, the storyline is virtually exactly the same, with the same incidents, characters etc. It is well worth watching even though part of the dialogue is in French and the remainder in English, so you need subtitles for the French parts. I am sure it will be shown in the USA as it is on Sky Atlantic, so there must have been some American funding behind it.
Greg - The US just finished its version of The Bridge with the body found exactly on the border of the US and Mexico. I have a few episodes left, but what I've seen was quite good (if a little cartoonish in a couple places).
Just saw an episode of the X-Files that had three different West Wing actors on it. It's like my TV universe expanded or something.
OMFG. It was even more than I thought.
Here's the West Wing characters who were in the same X-Files episode titled "Trust No.1"...
Ms. Lanningham - President Bartlett's receptionist for the first two seasons (before dying in a car accident on the show)
Mallory - Daughter of chief-of-staff Leo McGarry, and sometimes fling with Sam Seaborn (played by Rob Lowe)
General Nicholas Alexander - Took over after Fitzwallace retired as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Now, those three were the ones I mentioned originally. But there were two more:
Mark Brookline - West Wing staffer in the communications department. Only this one episode, just long enough to get fired.
And then, the one I can't believe I didn't realize at the time...
Elizabeth Bartlet - The eldest daughter of President Bartlet, played by none other than Detective Reyes
I can't believe I watched all those post-Mulder X-files episodes and never once realized that Reyes was Bartlet's daughter.
Crazy. I usually pick up on that stuff right away, no matter how remote the connection.
Of the nine credited actors on that episode (according to IMDB), five of them were from West Wing.
An update on some UK programmes that might be of interest, but no spoilers. Downton Abbey is, IMO and many others, a much better series than the last. It is tackling a range of social issues, some relevant to the 1920s, but some still relevant today. It'll keep your interest, I promise. Whitechapel has just ended its mini-series. This series was far darker, in all senses of the word, than previous series. In my opinion it went 'off the boil' a bit. I have also just read that a second series of Broadchurch is to be made early next year - great news with Olivia Colman continuing as Ellie Miller. No news of David Tennant in that but he is to star in the US version next year. He is also in the much anticipated 50th Anniversary edition of Dr Who in a couple of weeks. I can claim that I did see the original episode 50 years ago!
We are still enjoying The Tunnel. Whilst it is very similar in many respects to the Swedish/Danish The Bridge, there are some slight variations to keep the interest going. Programme 4 is on tonight - it has become a real must watch for us.
Two other series which are on the BBC and are very good. The first is Peaky Blinders, set in 1920's Birmingham all about gangs, stars Sam O'Neil and features a score by Nick Cave. The other is Ripper Street again based in Victorian London East End all about the criminal and police action, great cast and script.
Greg, lots of memories of 60's Dr Who, used to be on after Grandstand. I did spend rather a lot of the time behind the sofa especially when the Darleks were on, friends still laugh when I tell them they causethe odd panic when I see them!
We're planning to bail out on Downton Abbey...It just got too soapy last year. Then again, it's airing in the depth of winter here, so maybe we'll give it a shot. I heard it's going to be followed immediately by the new Sherlock, so that should be a blockbuster for PBS.
We've been watching Black Books. Very much an Absolutely Fabulous vibe to it. Eccentric bookstore owner and his eccentric friends. Some genuinely funny moments.
Watched the first few episodes of The Newsroom and threw in the towel. Sorkin's pontificating (especially about actual events he has the benefit of hindsight on) and the ridiculous romantic entanglements were just too much for me.
This week's the Walking Dead episode, with everyone's favorite self-appointed leader is back, only this time with more hair. He's starting to look a little Snake Plisskin-like.

I don't think I've ever seen a celebratory phone call be more terrifying than that one.
Wow.

Please, you freakish on-time watching Breaking Bad people, type some sort of spoiler alert at the top of your post!
Some of us norms like to wait several months after a show has aired before watching it on Netflix.
Any tv connoisseur would know that it's good to let a tv episode breathe for a little while before consuming it.
Also, I can type "connoisseur" instantaneously thanks to Blue Note Records.
Craig
As well I should.

Thanks for mentioning Black Books. Put Season 1 on hold at the library. It sounds interesting.
Also put a hold on Foyle's War. There was a PBS fundraiser thingie highlighting it. Just thought I'd mention it because it's also British.
Spoiler alertish:
Here's a funny list of predictions for how Breaking Bad might end.
It may be a comment on my character, but speculating about Walter, jr. seems to produce some of the more silly predictions.
Amazifying? Horrifyzing? Amazihorrifying?
Whatever the word, I still have a knot in chest more than 13 hours later.

The answer to the question about Baby Holly is particularly awesome.

Edit - Weds. I'm going to have to get that Badfinger song - I can't shake it.
A thumbs up for the Broadchurch finale as well - didn't see that coming, which is the quintessence of mystery theater or fiction.

Anyway else seen The News Room? We just started making our way through it on Netflix DVD. Quite a unique, compelling show so far.
Also just received the first disc of Mad Men Season 6. This season is apparently about facial hair.
Facial hair and drugs. That's Mad Men Season 6.
