XTC-English Settlement. Released in a horribly truncated--butchered, really--form Stateside back in '82, it sounds immeasurably better in its full. occasionally overwrought, glory. "JAY-SON AND THE ARRR-GOOOO-NOO-OOOOTTTSSS"
I must say, the Audio Gourmet netlabel has a very good overall standard - I'm working my way through and have not really heard anything I didn't like yet. I am enjoying this one too. I see they have one pay-for album that they are encouraging folk to buy to help fund the free downloads (which they appear to be out of) - I'm going to have to do that I think in appreciation of all this great free stuff. [Edit] actually this one seems to be a pay-for also - it's not in the Archive]
Evangelical Christians can have good taste in music.
Seconded. There's a powerful subculture using religion to sell junk, but not all succumb to it.
But from one perspective, aren't bootlegs like file sharing: getting copyrighted material without compensating the copyright owner? Don't get me wrong--I'm not getting up on a pulpit myself. Some of the music I have came from, ah, alternative sources. It just seemed odd to link extensive information about boots publicly to a public ministry.
Ah, I see. Maybe that is odd. It seemed as if the incongruity might be implied to be between beliefs and musical tastes - I think I at least misunderstood your point. I don't really know much about the vagaries of bootlegging. Am I right in thinking some bands tolerate or even encourage it and some don't? Probably a discussion for another thread.
A mysterious-sounding, gorgeously packaged set, Cloud Plate finds Cline on equal billing with electric koto player Miya Masaoka, vocalist Kaoru, and ex-Shadowfax guitarist G.E. Stinson. Drawing less from the jazz side and more from the work of 20th Century avant-gardists, the music here is not so much about swinging but about constructing vast, glacial textures. Laden with chasmic reverb and perforated with Cline's distant percussion and Masaoka's taut plucking, these dark sounds are interwoven with Kaoru's processed, wordless (or is that her native Japanese?) vocals and Stinson's treated instrument. The beautifully monochromatic effect is foreboding, akin to the gray menace of a looming hurricane; Cline's swelling cymbal washes on the opener, "Ions," depict the ominously lapping waves of a storm-threatened beach.

I see your point now. I suppose that is a bit dodgy, but these are live recordings which are unavailable rather than pirated releases. Live recordings have always been a gray-area for Dylan. He has not addressed the legality of them, unlike the Dead (go for it) or Zappa (die in a fire for selling these recordings). Not really a justification, but as bob says, "these bootleggers make some pretty good stuff."
Multitrack electroacoustic works utilizing numerous electric guitar, electric bass and female voice samples.
The works here were composed between 1999-2005. All sound sources on this disc consist of electric guitar and electric bass samples, with the exception of the female vocal samples in KARMICOM. Sounds were either kept in their original state or were processed with effects.
"Asthmatic Kitty Records is proud to present Twilight and Ghost Stories, the debut solo album from musician and producer Chris Schlarb. A work of personal identity and deep catharsis, Twilight & Ghost Stories is a dense 40-minute modern composition featuring a disparate cross-section of musicians from the avant-garde, independent folk, jazz and electronic communities. A creative and accomplished jazz guitarist, Chris Schlarb cut his teeth producing hip-hop tracks, teaching music workshops and co-founding the free music collective Create (!). In 2004 he collaborated with installation artists Megan and Murray McMillan, and with fine artist Tom Steck formed I Heart Lung, which Tiny Mix Tapes called "some of the most energetic free-jazz to spit out of America." Spanning all of these endeavors, Twilight & Ghost Stories finds Schlarb playing acoustic piano, organ, electric and acoustic guitar as well as tapes and percussion."
On an totally unrelated note, is there any group of US sports fans quite so loopy as Steeler fans? Yes, perhaps even more than Packer fans! A branch of the family is from PGH, and they have been positively giddy all week, on Facebook and elsewhere. This morning, for example, I was invited to admire the following picture...
...of Hines Ward in his new Cowboy outfit. I will admit, that is quite some belt buckle. I bet those boots alone cost more than my paycheck this week. Oh well, still hope they win.

I have an *extensive* Dylan bootleg collection.
Holy hell, this album is so good.
Also found a video documentary about Homayun here, so you can see him play!
- Brilliant !
