obv., it isn't for everyone. but if you like dubstep-y thumbing base; swirling, layered tribal drumming; odd vocal samples (from, e.g., relaxation tapes) slowed down to an eerie pace; doomy drones; and occassional rays of light, e.g., the organ stabs that signal a change in direction for the mix, this is just brilliant.
I'm surprised - I honestly think it's one of the best rock albums of the past couple decades (if not longer).
Can't believe it's been a decade since this first burned its way into my brain.
@Daniel, Did you get their latest? Because I think it goes well with Twin Cinema.
I'm really confused that she's now going by Santigold. Am I supposed to retroactively re-tag this?

yeah, and you're right, it is a nice companion piece. it's an odd thing with TNP these days. the melodies are as strong as they used to be, the arrangements are still inventive, the drumming is still airtight, and the energy is back -- but there's something lacking, and i'm not sure if it's them (mellowing too much, following their muse to places where i like what's on the menu but i don't like the restaurant's atmosphere quite as much), or it's me (moving beyond power-pop to other, likely darker, stuff).
i still look forward to their next project. the members of the band can still certainly put out vital music, e.g., the latest destroyer disc.
Hate it when artists do that. I create my own fictionally consistent worlds - like making the many tracks I have by Off the Sky/off the sky/offthesky all be by an artist that stays spelled one way. I figure tags are for navigating, not for archive value.
@Daniel - Not to say it's you, but I kinda felt the same way at first. Then after repeated listenings I got back into that feeling and really loved it.
@Germanprof - I tend to just plain ignore capitalization, punctuation, and article (damn you, (The) Smashing Pumpkins) changes.
Going through my best of the aughts makes me want to beat up anybody who says that music sucks these days...
Pole, 123.
Wonderful stuff. And I see it has just recently disappeared from emusic. And I hadn't completed it. Rats. I guess I will tell my self I can't have wanted the other tracks that badly because I let other things be downloaded before them. I do have enough of them for a decent dose of crackly bliss.

Still 5 bucks for a couple more days.
New album coming out, reacquainting myself with this one.

Streaming from Bandcamp. Quite nice. Unfortunately stream-only.
Been so dependent on "new" and "new to me" music. Time to go through other things...
Carbeth - Trembling Bells
I'm not going to bitch about the follow-up, but this album is pretty much damn perfect.
Can't believe it's been a decade since this first burned its way into my brain.
The kinetic frenzy of the closing "Natural Anthem" makes my head bob a lot...
This reminds me of a very young Colin Meloy. Mostly because it is.

King's X - Tapehead
Not their best, but still has its moments. Groove machine has inane lyrics but still works.

agreed. better now than when i was growing up, which i thought -- at the time -- was a golden age (mid-80s).
