Thanks for the reminder, Prof. If you like this one, you might enjoy Bennie Maupin's "The Jewel in the Lotus" - a favorite of mine that comes from a similar time and place.
Really interesting Freddie entry from 1966 - Several different lineups, including one with Herbie Hancock threatening to tip things over the edge from hard bop to free jazz. Had to buy one long track at Amazon, the rest at Guvera.
elwood - What house on Gu would you most recommend? I enjoy it from time to time, but haven't really delved into it (I keep meaning to read Simon Reynolds' book about British rave culture).
@thom, loving it. The mix is much more club orientated and not in the vein of Dimitri's usual cocktail kitsch. It's big and soulful, Defected definitely curates that sound, so it has that blissful late 90's early 00's sweetness to it.
@craig, I did some basic searching on Gu but was largely coming up empty handed. But if you're inclined track down Masters At Work, DJ Gregory, Kenny Dope (one half of Masters at Work), and Derrik Carter. I'd also strongly recommend Derrik May's work as Rhythim is Rhythim, Strings of Life is seminal.
Thanks, elwood! Would you recommend the compilation Henry Street Music: The Story So Far 1993-1999? It has some Kenny Dope among the 40 tracks on it. (Number of tracks is no issue for me as I tend to sit around 200 DL at Guvera at all times.)
I finally came around to grab this ECM gem.
- Beeing a big fan of the Danish trumpet and fluegelhorn player Palle Mikkelborg, it beats me why it took me so long to grab this gem from a dreamteam of great musicians. Recorded April 1983
ECM 1261
Shankar 10-string double violin, percussion
Jan Garbarek tenor, soprano and bass saxophones, percussion
Palle Mikkelborg trumpet, fluegelhorn
Rec'd by P42. . .
- Very powerful stuff from Yair Yona & co.
The first track sounds a bit like a spacejazz version of a Suicide track called Ghostrider.

Hey folks,
Long time, but I've got some exciting news.
First, I'm proud to announce the debut album of my new band Farthest South is now out. We've recorded the album with several of friends who came throughout the day, including the free jazz and improvisation maestro Albert Beger and a week ago we've released Omens & Talismans.
The album is mixture of psychedelic, electronic, and experimental music, with the mind blowing saxophone of Albert.

@elwoodicious, That is a helluva lot of House!

House music? Sorry...
While Freddie was experimenting, Miles was already out there...

Been into Philip Glass the last could of days....

I wish there was Oasis on Guvera. I've long needed to add Definitely Maybe to my library.

One of those not-really-jazz,-more-like-improvised-classical affairs. Quite enjoyable. Gu!
Collaboration between Shirley Collins and the Albion Band. Gu!
It just started snowing. The boy is excited, but he might feel differently when we need to reschedule his first "real" date.
Gu! After downloading a bunch of ECM, it was time for a little change...
