I use an ipod shuffle - so no display screen - so occasionally, like now, I find myself listening to something I have absolutely no idea what it is - I really like it though - sort of a beepy - glitchy electronic thing.
except now it's taken a decided turn for the worse into some weird sort of communal vocal exercise thing - unless this is something different. What the hell did I put on my ipod???
now if I'm not mistaken someone is playing a baloon - squeeking the sides and squeezing air out. I think this must be something I got off of Free Music Archive.
Acupuncture : it is believed that the ear is a particularly sensitive spot with reference to addiction, and acupuncturists who deal with addicts will stick a needle in it in an attempt to aid detox.
so it turned out that the thing I couldn't figure out was Dan Deacon, live on WFMU in 2003, from Free Music Archive. A weird set - some things I absolutely loved, and some things I didn't care for on the first listen through. Much different than his last two albums though. Check it out; you can't beat the price! Sorry no link, I can't go there from work, and was busy shoveling most of the weekend.
Graham Lambkin and Jason Lescalleet - The Breadwinner - thanks for the rec. Kargatron.
The other day I had this on in the car and my wife and I were going out for dinner and instead of immediately turning off the music when she got in like I usually do (she's not a big fan of much of the stuff I like) I decided to leave it playing and she didn't really notice until about five minutes into the trip and then she said "what on earth is wrong with your car? is that your engine?"
amclark2 - I know the feeling. The other day I was listening to the new Xiu Xiu, and my wife suddenly says, "if someone were to record music specifically to make me hate it...this would be it."
Did you buy that from Erstwhile? Did you buy anything else?
No, I got it from a third party seller on Amazon - I had some gift certificate credit left and was ordering something else too - I will hit Erstwhile at some point but it will mean getting budget approval from the aforementioned wife...
Craig, haha, funny too. I am not very kind to my wife about avoiding stuff she doesn't like, and she tolerates most of it, though rarely tolerates sinewave-type stuff.
I forget exactly what it was, but I was listening to some kind of free jazz the other day, and my wife said "Sounds like they're drunk." She does have other fine qualities.
Ignoring the awkward music summer camp photo this is the best 1 credit I have spent in a damn long time. Really enjoyable.
(btw, Does anyone know why all these cats are all Doctors? Is there like a Raga grad school and part of their post-doc work is taking really bad pictures for cover art?)
Emmylou Harris, the Songbird box set. Lamentedly no longer the bargain it was for a few hours once upon a time in an error far, far away, but it really is a superb set of songs.
Currently a lot of random things from my Amie Street SFL. Trying to clear out the junk. Would love to do it for eMu, too, but they cut off your SFL access when you cancel.

"Winter Song 1964"...seemed appropriate for the day. I had this before, but just realized that it's on eMu: http://www.emusic.com/album/Bill-Dixon-Archie-Shepp-Bill-Dixon-Archie-Shepp-MP3-Download/11829092.html. Guess it was part of the new Savoy drop??
Judy Dunaway: Balloon Music
- Very bizzare stuff !
Is this an anti-drug song? What does I've had it in the ear before mean?

Or it may be a reference to Hamlet
John Adams' answer to Mozart's Magic Flute - a south Indian folk tale of a young woman who can transform into a tree and... well, complications ensue.
If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times. Being able to transform into a tree is nothing but a recipe for complications.
I am currently listening to Atmosphere's Seven's Travels.

This is my favorite thing. Find it in music player in the left column.

Joe and Woody played together on lots of dates, but they're co-leaders on this one.
EVARISTO DALL'ABACO - Concerti for Strings - Opp. 2, 6 (Cappella Coloniensis)
Sigh.

Amazing !
Emma Pollock - The Law of Large Numbers
Really enjoying this. I seem to recall that her first album was on my SFL - I'll have to check that out, too.
