  • My old dad used to say, the best part of banging your head against the wall is when you stop, I have written to CS, don't expect an answer from them except a case number. Its becoming a joke and to quote the Smiths, the joke is not funny anymore

Since yesterday (when I added a bunch of jazz titles to my wishlist) at least five jazz labels have changed to "full album unavailable" status for all of their albums. In some cases the label no longer displays correctly (there are albums in my wish list and present on the site that no longer show on the label page). This affects at least Jazzwerkstatt, Fog Arts, Bergland Productions, Challenge Records, Ajmilive, C&C Records, Origin Records. Also Temporary Residence. I estimate more than half of the things I saved to choose from are now unavailable.

It is getting much worse, not better, and if emusic is still reading this thread I think it is getting time someone there put their head above the parapet again. The blog has gone quiet on fixes since the patently spurious claim on May 17 to have fixed the album unavailable issue.
  • You can add
    100% Silk
    Dream Catalogue
    Speaker Footage
    Lone Hill
    Ninja Tune
    Finders Keepers

and doubtless others. I'm spending £40 a month for this? And it used to work that's what get's me all this just so it looks good on mobile devices.

    Hmmmm ? . . . Strange, I did a check on:
    100% Silk
    Dream Catalogue
    Speaker Footage
    Lone Hill
    Ninja Tune
    - All seems to be available from where I live, except:
    Finders Keepers
    - Isn't there at all.

It seems like the problem is coming and going totally at random.

    ETA: and GP's list:
Jazzwerkstatt, Fog Arts, Bergland Productions, Challenge Records, Ajmilive, C&C Records, Origin Records. Also Temporary Residence

    - Everything seems to be ok except C&C (couldn't find that one)

Yup, they are back. Not quick enough to temper my broadside to CS. Who knows what music will be available tomorrow. (Other albums are still broken, like this one)
  • I must admit to being frustrated - I had hoped for more by now ....
  • Yes mine are back and I've grabbed what I could with available credit. Exceptions are Ralph Towner Solstice is gone from the catalogue but of course you can't remove it from the list. Emma Tricca which was the Finders Keeps disc appears to be a genuine glitch with a playback error.
so they have another 3 weeks to sort things out before I get myself stressed again.
  • I'll note that I received an email today indicating that many of my partial albums have been filled in - a quick check confirms many additions to my files.   Glad to see that.
  • Apologies if this is repetitious but having had time to prowl through some of my Save lists, zapping out the remnants of major labels, I am disappointed to find that Acoustic Disc, Sanctuary, Ace and Charley are gone now.  I am well stocked with Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Dawg Music but there were a few I would have liked to fill in maybe.  Onwards and downward.  Used up some leftover Booster credits buying more from the Johnny Winter Live Bootleg Series of which there are a number - not all created equal but there is good stuff in there.
  • I do miss Ace & Sanctuary
  • Things continue to go from bizarre to bizarrer. I bought an earlier album by Daniel Herskedal for $5.99 but it would not download. So I wrote to customer service. They confirmed that the file is broken and said that since they did not know when it would be fixed, they were adding $2.16 to my account to refund the purchase of the album. Not only does the amount bear no relationship to the amount I paid for the album, but I am not sure there are any albums on the site that cost $2.16.
  • Perhaps they're refunding your 5.99 Mexican pesos in the form of 2.16 in Chinese yuan.

And, yes, I did actually run some currency conversion scenarios before posting my smartass comment.

    /furniture
  • Glad to see you keeping proper track of the monies.
  • Well they refunded the difference, so either the Yuan theory is wrong or they saw this thread and decided to change strategy (or currency).
  • Man, hook, line and sinker on that one.

At my day job, they found out about my monies problem.  Now they insert the word into power point slides while I'm giving a presentation, write it on notepads during meetings, etc.  Not good.
  • Just in case anyone else is interested in Daniel Herskedal's earlier albums, this version of Neck of the Woods is broken (won't download): https://www.emusic.com/album/237116/Daniel-Herskedal/Neck-of-the-Woods
But this version works fine and is identical despite the "deluxe" tag: https://www.emusic.com/album/2939488/Daniel-Herskedal/Neck-of-the-Woods-Deluxe-Version

Here's the final chapter of my ongoing conversation with Emusichelps at twitter:

My "Save For Later" from the old site is still missing. I've got a shot provided by a fellow Emuser showing how it's should look like

    Can you check now?

    6. jun.

Check: Firefox, IE and Crome. "Wishlist" and "My Music" is the same as before.

I tried to create a new list and got this: Error: "You have reached the maximum number of Lists allowed" - Could it be that this limit prevents the "Save for Later" to display ?

    Yes indeed. Apologies.

    6. jun.

Would you please inform me wether Emusic is going to do something about it ?

Unfortunately, we won't be able to change it at this time.

    __________________________________________________

we won't be able to change it at this time.
    - Usually means, "It's never gonna happen". or "We have plenty of problems as it is, so  . . . ?"

    - That was the final goodbye to my "Save for later" and I can probably forget about a full migration of "My Music"
  • I lost my save for later too. I can't remember a lot of what was on it although I had really cut it down a lot. In some ways it's annoying but it's also a little nice to have a clean slate. Unfortunately my wish list already has a bunch of stuff in it I'll probably never get. Sorry about your list tho brighternow. :(
  • Sorry for your loss, BN, I know you love your lists! One might have thought that in building a new site they would check how many lists the most avid users already have before setting the maximum...
I took screenshots of mine before the switch, anticipating the worst.

Hey, It's not like someone has died or anything ;)

    - It's just very annoying.

ETA: I do appreciate your concern.
  • That is a drag about the Lists.  Probably a good thing I got mad and deleted my basically recommended Lists a couple of years back when it became obvious they were never going to fix other members being able to access them again.  My remaining variations on SFL survived and I am winnowing out the stuff they no longer carry.  It is a slow train of diminishing returns I feel.  There is a new Joe Bonamassa coming out June 23rd, Live at Carnegie Hall - we'll see if it shows up on eMu.
  • Some good news for a change - Ninja Tune content back up to 622 albums (UK at least) as per during the beta period.
  • So they have Mack Ave (one of the few 'major' jazz labels to make the leap), but they don't have the new live album by Sean Jones. Bah, and also Humbug. Posting here in case they're still surveilling us...
  • It's pretty common these days that when I write about an album, it's not being retailed on eMusic.  That didn't used to be the case.  I typically link to three retailers on my write-ups: Bandcamp, Amazon and eMusic (and sometimes I'll throw some love to CDBaby). More often than not, there's no emusic option. The absence is noticeable.
  • I think eMusic fixed the cases where it was less expensive to buy albums a track at a time.  It looks like the cost is discounted by one track if you buy the whole album.  I've also run across some EPs with nice prices, i.e. 5 tracks for $0.99.  I wonder if "complete the album" pricing for albums that you have bought some tracks from is there now or coming soon?

We're about 4 months into this adventure, so I bet it's fair to say that what we have now is the new normal.
  • Don't know who said it, where they said it, and if it was more than one person saying it, but I agree with the supposition that emusic moved their comment boards over to Reddit so that service complaints were separated from the site itself. I'm sure there's some other benefits to not having a forum on the site itself from an operations standpoint, but I also think they're happy to effectively get rid of the forum without actually killing it, knowing that most people would not bother to create a separate reddit account. As far as I can tell, they don't even link to the Reddit site from the emusic site... not sure if that public comment thing crossposts over to reddit.

I don't personally care one way or the other. Just found it interesting, and noticed how my one post on the reddit site continues to sit there are the top because there's so little activity there. On the other hand, when I (or others) post something on the Jazz reddit page, it gets moved down the board pretty fast as new posts are made.
  • trunkler, I can confirm that 'Complete my album' functionality is being developed right now and should be available soon.
  • Super to hear, nirp, thanks for the update!  Maybe I'm a bit quirky, but I like buying some albums on the installment plan to see if repeated listening to a growing sample of tracks keeps pulling me in.

Wow, just now for the first time really looking at the details of My Music post-conversion, and it's way worse than I thought.  I knew a bunch of albums never made it over, but I didn't realize until now how many of those that populated on the new site only have one or two tracks out of the entire album.  Yeesh.  This is why eMusic's whole move to get its customer base to simply cloud-and-stream is a joke. It's one thing to rent music instead of buying it, but another altogether if that rental can't be counted on being there from month to month.  I really think this will be my last month.
  • Remember when you could just re-download everything that you bought as often as you wanted as long as it was still available? That was nice.

Glad the complete album function will return; hard to get a lot with $6.49 account when albums average $6.99. I guess I should just spring for the $6.99 account. $7 an album just seems a lot less cheap for a discount site. I might be done soon too. Although I'm sure I'll be back at some point. I always come back. :)
