Ok, that doesn't really do this justice - this is a very very nice rock to indie rock type album, enjoyable throughout with moments of near perfection - really, really good; and it makes me sad that nobody is able to hop over to amie st. and get it for cheap.
- Streaming from Bandcamp: Our Ceasing Voice - Steadied Stars In The Morphium Sky (EP) - Special Edition
- My goodness, these guys are serious !
- "A band from Austria, sounds like a mix between a band from the Lost Children netlabel and a band from the Swedish doom & gloom label Cold Meat Productions, spiced with a dash of Explotions in the Sky."
- Mister B.
Some (magnificent) New Zealand music, in Auckland airport. (Apparently Jakob just disappeared off emusic. And one of Laura's albums is gone too. It's like the Bermuda triangle there lately. Also a real shame that a band this good has such lousy distribution. One of their other albums on Amazon is attributed to "Jakob Nielsen".)
Thomas Mery - Les Couleurs, Les Ombres - (Own Records, May 2011)
"Whether it was with the post-pop-rock band Purr at the end of the 90s, by experimenting on stage with nothing more than an empty sampler or by turning to a more straight forward folk music in 2006, Thomas Mery has never ceased to search. Own Records introduces his new album: Les couleurs, les ombres. On the albums six tracks - sung mainly in French - Mery deconstructs and transforms the code of folk music. Acoustic guitars form the base for other acoustic instruments to build upon while lyrically, Mery filters everyday lifes impulses through the more volatile matter of dreams, creating songs that are modern yet timeless, personal and non-referential, songs that allow the daring listener to penetrate an intimate and singular world. Six tracks that open new doors and demonstrate how far he has come. RIYL: Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Dominique A, Purr"
My 2 cents:
TM performes his brilliant songs with a fragile Tim Buckley'ish voice - A truely amazing artist !

@Thom - I enjoyed both, the same sort of sound. I had not paid any attention to Wye Oak until the current album, the free track (available everywhere?) was excellent, so I bought all three, two physical CD's from Merge and the Amazon DotD. I also heard a nice interview on NPR, mostly concerning the release of the new album on Vinyl.
Let that be a lesson in marketing, give away a good track and people buy the album.

Just got a little package in the mail from Merge with these two CD's. I am still really enjoying the new one (Civilian).

A band from LA for Los Angeles airport. (A little research reveals that there are almost no bands from LA that I like). Stuck in LA overnight now.

Just crossed 14 time zones, came down with a lousy cold on the way, now have to go teach with a head full of sludge...
[edit: Jakob and Laura are back on emu - does what turns up on searches vary by location?]

@elwoodicious - And how's the Gonjasufi? When something from Warp is under $4 on Amazon it gets my attention.
Curious about the Gonjasufi too...

...and speaking of riding that high....

If I was the President, if I was that man.
I would walk out with those kids, out across the sand.
If I was the President, if I was that brave.
I would take a shovel and dig each child their grave.
If I was the President and my world turned black.
I would want no victory, I'd just want you back.
Had to listen to this today. With the big news it's more than time to bring them back.
