RIP - I had to delve deep into my piles of CDs to find this, the only CD I have by him, bought mainly for the tracks where Eric Clapton and Keith Richard were playing with him. But what comes over is how great a guitarist he was, even when playing with someone like Clapton

@BN, I didn't know all those Icelandic artists shared a bedroom.
@greg, or anyone else,I'll be in Kenya for a few days - any music from there I should be listening to? All my (limited) African stuff seems to be from further West.
Benga music! Good stuff. The only artist name I can recall off hand, though, is Ali Akeko of Meketho Band. Here's a link to some of his stuff on Awesome Tapes from Africa.
Thanks. I'll see what I can do, but am not sure if I will get to stores. I'm doing some training for a school all day for several days and then flying straight back for obligations here, so I think it's going to be one of those visits with little time for local exploring.
ETA, Craig, reading down that page makes me want to ask if we will moderate and remove comments on the Music is Good blog. The comments section under that tape is an admonitory tale...
My main interest in African music is West Africa GP, mainly because that is where I've been, partly doing something similar to what you are doing, in The Gambia. It sounds interesting what you are doing. Where abouts are you going in Kenya? I'm trying to get some funding to take a group of teachers out to Bugoma, western Kenya, to work with schools at some point in the next 12-18 months. The Diocese of Peterborogh is twinned with the Anglican diocese in the Bugoma area, and we're doing it through that link with teachers in local church schools. The only problem is that British Council and Overseas Development Agency funding is drying up at the moment
I'm back on research for my Music is Good article so
GP - They are already moderated. If a message is posted by someone who is not an author or admin (e.g. JUJ who posted on my first article) the message goes out for approval. I think Dr. Mutex has already nuked several spam posts that tried to get through.
I'll be just outside Nairobi, at a school that has some connections with my college, with some other local schools taking part, (and some local medical staff also for part of the event that's focused on intercultural competence).
@Craig, good to hear, sad as I am to lose another chance to be sent viagra ads.
Really enjoying this Philly jazz/funk reissue. Chops galore, unusual instrumentation (eg, flute, violin, synth), and copious musical ideas. May yet pick up vol 1 this month over at eMu...I understand it is more "commercial"

This seemed appropriate for a cold morning out in the car. But I am not sure where it fits in with music for driving - see this thread

Buy some tapes in the stores and share, though!

Now playing the Ali Akeko.

Forgot all about this one
This is the new album by the French ensemble Le Po
Loving this, thanks Craig.
Frank Kimbrough is such an under-recognized talent. He really has his own touch on piano.
Daniel Ogren - "Laponia"
Carlos Bica & Azul - "Things About"
