  • Thanks, Doofy, I'll pass on the compliment :-)

Since embarking on the effort (about 14 months ago I think) I have now finished listening to everything in my iTunes library plus everything in my dump-until-I-can-unzip-and-tag-it folder. There is not an unlistened to album on my system. Hmm, what should I download....

"I think some day I may have all Dylan's albums, but want to take it slow."

Took me almost 50 years to get them all....looking forward to the next.

I'll still haven't got even half, and it must be 45 plus years since I bought my first Dylan LP!

Now playing Blonde on Blonde as this prompted me to realise I hadn't played any Dylan in ages.
  • Nice songs GPjr.! I listened, downloaded and followed.
  • Flying Jellyfish has now been scrobbled on last.fm. Very fun!

This is from a couple of years ago but I just discovered it and have not seen it mentioned here I don't think. Another entry in the modern classical vein, Fires by Le Lendemain. Le Lendemain are Danny Norbury (a cellist who has recorded with The Boats recently) and David Wenngren (who has been releasing stuff under that name and as Library Tapes). More nice meditative piano/cello pieces - very nice indeed. For those who like Peter Broderick, Olafur Arnalds, etc - recommended.

Long story, the short version is that a few months ago I switched to a new laptop without Firewire, so my music library is still on the old laptop and the ext. Firewire drive with the music is in a drawer. All this time I've been playing stuff in Spotify and off the Web. I've had no need to plug the ext. drive back in.
Dr. M, except for a few details that's my story. Old computer died, its hd with my music is literally in a drawer, and I keep meaning to do something about it but I haven't felt any urgency, both because I keep adding new music and because of Spotify. I still plan to do that, though. Once in a while I miss some things on it.

Germanprof, it's a coincidence that I first saw your Sacred Steel post today after I heard a story today on NPR about sacred steel music.

Amclark2, definitely agree with you about Glen Campbell. That his voice is not as perfect as it once was makes it more emotionally resonant for me. It's sort of like climbing up a rock wall compared to climbing a wall of sheer glass, if that makes any sense.

    Now listening: pe-newsom-have-one-on-me.jpg
I decided it's time at last to listen to the whole thing, from beginning to end.

I just now happened to a live stream from the New Orleans Jazz Festival. At the moment it's My Morning Jacket. http://www.youtube.com/jazzfest?feature=ticker

Edit: My, that was much better than I expected. They're better without being buried in echo as they often are when recorded. I think they're coming to Red Rocks this summer; I might have to go see them.

Which is lame. In a fantastic and incredibly enjoyable way.

Yes, this is good. Has anybody mentioned Husker Du? I hear some Husker Du here. Which is never a bad thing.
  • I loved Husker back on the day, but I have to say I almost never have a desire to hear them nowadays, and . . . I dunno, maybe not excited to hear them mentioned as an influence on a new band? Somewhat ashamed to say that.

Now, I also read somewhere that The Men recorded a new song that sounds something like an updated Cortez The Killer. That intrigues me.
  • I picked this up on a GP or BN (or both) rec, and just loving it...

Olafur Arnalds - "...and they have escaped the weight of darkness"

Said to hear of MCA's passing. I've always really liked Beastie Boys and just went through a revisit period last autumn... music so good.
  • Listening to that FatCat Transcendentalism EP that GP linked to above. Good ambient stuff.
