This is an extremely busy weekend, so it'll take me a little while to get to all of that, but I will.
Depending what genre you're coming from you might have to learn to listen with slow ears, not waiting impatiently for the next thing to happen. You are listening for layers of sound, timbre, overtones, resonance, subtle shifts and extended structures over time. Sometimes like watching clouds or a river.

- "What strikes immediately in Fausto Romitellis work (1963-2004) is the immediacy of his musical proposals that pleases the ear. As a convinced modernist who is careful not to indulge in the arrogant fallacy of radical rupture for its own sake, the composer represents an heir of Western musical traditions be they scholarly or popular, ancient or current all the while expressing a strong sense of independence towards historical necessity or the desire to pertain to a group, to be heard. By playing with coded musical structures (and evading them at the same time), his frescoes, which exhibit a fascinating expressive force, become directly accessible to the music lover yearning to take the plunge into this universe of sound. In the tradition of the electroacoustic and spectral movements, Romitelli, an enthusiastic and curious technophile, devotes himself to new technologies of amplification and transformation that make electric sounds become electrifying and, through successive distorsion, reverberation and projection, creates a three-dimensional illusion. On the occasion of his 50th anniversary, the ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, directed by Jean-Paul Dessy, retraces the arch of a decade (1990-2001) in Fausto Romitellis musical work and explores several pieces of music that are presented on the disc for the first time."

Drones are more than accents. They are the beginnings of harmony, and some instruments are built to produce them regularly along with melody: bagpipes and hurdy gurdies in particular.
Expwy is a very little know name thus far, but I assure you, this is bound to change. Take the beautiful instrumentation, catchy rhythms, gentle vocals of bands like The Shins and Simon and Garfunkel, and now add in the ability to learn something historical from a good listen, and here you have EXPWY, and their fantastic new album "Total Gold".
Each track is extremely unique, yet they fall into this same dusty, old worldly vibe. Styles bounce and swim all over the place, as obtuse time signatures accompany jazz-like sounds and fast-finger picking hums the stories untold through well balanced, complimentary vocal patterns and lyrics. Additionally, there is something sloppy and scattered about the mixes, making it ultimately feel that much more intimate and in some ways informative. You'd be a Grinch not to scope and scoop this album for free while you still can.
man, this is dangerous sounding; industrial, grinding, tribal music from a drag-queen punk. try freak jerk for a sample of the sound. scuzzy, seedy new-york night music.
EMEFE has only one intention: to play music that frees everybody in the audience & everybody listening at home. The group plays its own mix of afrobeat music as created by the late Fela Kuti, mixed with the funk of Sly Stone and jazz and hip hop influences, all with a rock and roll edge. EMEFE consists of 4 horns, 2 guitars, bass, drums, keyboard, shekere and congas.
- "Treading the lines between abstract industrialism and textured noise, Hanetration offsets these four self-released audio paintings with field recordings, manipulated glitches and subterranean ambience. Pealing away at the edges, twenty-nine minutes briskly float away as distressed electronic crackles, horns, reversed loops, fractured vocal samples and tangled strands cascade in a surreal dreamscape filled with ambiguity. As Hanetration deconstructs these pixelated sonic textures, one can easily lose themselves among the myriad of blurred effects that are punctuated by rhythmic patterns throughout. Tenth Oar is a well-balanced array of turbulentand often subtleexperiments that unfold with repeated listens. Fans of Fennesz and Boards of Canadas compressed interludes will certainly appreciate Hanetrations trajectory on this free-of-charge extended player."

Yes BT. I only discovered them through a link from the Freddy Fuego album, which came up in the latest Bandcamp jazz releases, so just chance really. I've just been out shopping, library etc and played
This is my favourite of their CDs
Next up will be another EMEFE recording once I've downloaded it!
album of the year contender imo. also -- along with grimes and beach house -- one of the few hyped indie-centric discs that's lived up to expectations in 2012. need more albums meeting that description, imo.

Thanks to BT's nudge on the Inside Tips/Mispriced Box thread this got rescued from my jazz SFL at eMu, and that seems to be a very good thing.
Scared the cat when this came on and I started singing along and gyrating - had to reassure her I was only partially out of my mind.
