official video for the first single (no. 1 against the rush) from liars new disc, which might be the best thing released so far this year. be forewarned: it's really -- really -- terrifying. i watched it at 3am when i couldn't sleep. i shouldn't have.
Inspired by the latest amazon sale, as well as my recent purchase of the corresponding 33 1/3 book, to give this album another try. Maybe I've never loved it because I never owned an authorized copy? Oh well, Paris apparently likes it.
no, i haven't! is it like "ramshackle punk"? that stuff rarely appeals to me. but i also think the men is a group i might like. in fact, i loved one of their songs so much that i downloaded the whole compilation (it's the one on that sacred-bones sampler from a month or so ago).
Nope. It's hard to describe them, because they vary quite a bit. There is a lot of noise rock, but often poppier, occasionally veering into post rock, and one track is almost folky.
Daniel - I can't tell. Do you like the new Liars album?
well, about the "best album of the year" thing; hold on hold on. this new walkmen album is good. and this song, love you love -- which is only available via youtube in a live version (too bad, since the studio version has much cleaner sound) -- is a blast. that churning guitar in the chorus is infectious. it's on constant repeat for me right now.
@ GP: - Aguirre Records certainly does seem to be an interesting label:
Nova Scotian Arms / Motion Sickness Of Time Travel - Crystal Anniversary
Released 01 October 2011
All music by Rachel & Grant Evans
Mastered by Lawrence English
- "This split lp sees the man/wife duo of Grant and Rachel Evans performing under their own solo projects. In the past two years they have released a bunch of awesome tapes and cd-rs on their label Hooker Vision. They also record and perform as droneduo Quiet Evenings.
This record was created to celebrate the crystal anniversary of the couple. And indeed, on both sides Grant and Rachel create sounds which sound like the perfect marriage."
I cannot believe this - but this is free on Bandcamp in better sound quality than when I downloaded from Amazon. Not, IMO, his best album, but still good,
Second play already, even though I have other new downloads to play. It is that good. If you like Amy Winehouse you'll like this, it is possibly even better. And it is FREE! If Asa was from UK or US she'd be a big star.
Update - this really is good. Probably one of my best three free downloads ever!

Absolutely loving the releases that came with my Now-Again subscription. Killer, just killer.

Craig
yes i do, because it is dark and sinister, and because i hate fun.
ETA: Liking this. Lazy, hazy, ever so slightly dubby here and there.

Daniel - Have you checked this one out yet? It's easily my favorite of 2012 thus far.
