I received some crappy news today: my octave mandolin is dying. It might have a few years of life left. He wondered if it had been dropped in the last year, because the truss rod is not responding. I haven't dropped it, but there have been many times that it has been out of my hands.

BT, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that you in time will find a worthy replacement.

Saturday morning at home, sorting out drawers etc ready for moving in ten days or so. Need something very familiar in the background - especially with Mrs G at home too!

Strong, insightful versions of Lennon's songs. Definitely worth a few listens.

ETA: Ted Giao put this at #34.

Finally gave this a whirl. Good songs, but as many have noted before more, they all sound unfinished.

Erdem Helvacioglu & Per Boysen -Sub City 2064

"Turkey’s Helvacioglu (electric guitar, GuitarViol) and Sweden’s Boysen (flute, sax, EWI, fretless and dropped-B electrics) masterfully employ looping and sophisticated electronics to craft uncommonly deep, intelligent, and beautiful cinematic compositions at times reminiscent of Stockhausen, Hassell, Eno, NIN, and Floyd, but brilliantly transcending those and their many other influences"

    - "Happiness is the Problem is a two-act opera about three struggling roommates in Brooklyn: Julie, Emily, and Maureen. Their fortune begins to change when Julie, a bioanthropsychopharmacologist, discovers an elixir of happiness derived from the secretions of slug mucus, which they bottle and sell as “Euphoressence.”

Happiness is the Problem is dedicated to Mary Halvorson. It has been performed at Roulette, Le Poisson Rouge, Issue Project Room, the Wilmette Theater, and The Stone."

"Recorded with an almost "spit-noise-on-the-back-of-the-reed" visceral presence, the sureness of Ryan's vision literally jumps out of the speakers. Billband is an experience, a band, and a sound that defies characterization. And, "Blurred" is a terrific first outing for this group. "
