So I was reading some of the Amazon reviews of the new Bowie and had to laugh at a 3* review that knocked it down some because a few tracks where about exactly what you would think from the title. Included in the list of these songs is "Valentine's Day". Are all songs that mention Valentine's Day in the title about a kid shooting up his school? I'm going to have to go back and listen to Outkast's "Happy Valentine's Day" again.
Sooner or later the Bowie will go on sale, and that's kind of the smartest way to do it; high price day one to get as much as you can from those who really want it, like Craig, and cheaper later to pull in the stragglers, like me.
I think we generally do have more on sale from amazon mp3 from the sounds of it, and cheaper sales too; when Bowie does go on sale it will probably be $3.99 or $5, and might dip lower on a one day sale, which, due to the exchange rate, is a lot less than £4.99.
Amazon has an asinine Bowie "sale" accompanying this release wherein MP3 albums that have been on sale for $5, or less, many times are "sale priced" at $5.99 or $6.99. Uncool.
The softer sound is growing on me. It's not going to get to the level of Open Your Heart, but I could see ending up liking this one more than Leave Home.
Had the Bowie CD on - streamed last week before ordering - and like the music, but I'm nominating it for Worst Insert of the Year already - tiny letters and colored paper are a bad, bad idea. Why TF should I have to imitate a freaking egyptologist, actually cuneiform would be closer to the mark, just to see who is playing on each track? Uncool promotion of Form before Function.
Orchestral synthesizer music: big, prog-ish sound, space theme, decent sound design, a little prententiousness, slightly dated, similar to Kitaro, without the Asian angle. Very enjoyable. Gu!
@ Soundcloud (in 112 kbps): Oren Ambarchi & Charlemagne Palestine

- "Palestine was in a mid-70s minimalist supergroup with Tony Conrad & Rhys Chatham called the The Fundamental D Flat Group. Their only recorded moment, from a live show at a college in New Jersey, is issued for the first time here, along with some Buchla-synth, sax, & flute improvs from the late 60s. Terry Jennings, Bob Feldman." Weirdo Records

A good album: it reminds me of Lyle Mays' keyboard work. At times the music is beautiful. It folds nicely into an optimistic view of America. Gu!
